The concoction that has been the definition of Marumo Gallants’ season has left the club being rewarded with millions amid seeking to save their DStv Premiership status.

It was only on Wednesday that Marumo failed to get past the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals hurdle after being elbowed out by Young Africans, but they still have reason to smile for all their efforts on the continent.

Such has been the rough terrain that Marumo have had to endure, they had first experience of how rough Africa can be when they had an ugly ride in Libya.

While the scars from that trip from hell are still fresh just like their DStv Premiership safety is still not secured, they are guaranteed of USD 750 000 (approx. R14.57 million) for reaching the semi-finals of the second tier CAF club competition.

CAF announced that the increased purse for the Confederation Cup on Friday.

What Marumo will get is almost equivalent to what the R15 million that the champions of the DStv Premiership Mamelodi Sundowns got for their efforts.

The winners of the Confederation Cup – either Yanga or USM Alger – will pocket a handsome USD 2 million (approx. R38.8 million) this year while whoever loses in the final gets half USD 1 million (R19.4 million).

With the R14.57 ‘bag’ secure which will clean up whatever bonus issues remain outstanding, the next challenge for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa is saving their top league status.

All they need on Saturday to be absolutely sure that they are staying up is a win away at Swallows FC at Dobsonville Stadium.

A draw will take them above Maritzburg United but could throw them into the play-offs depending on how Chippa United play against Golden Arrows.

After having already played home games in Polokwane, Dobsonville, Bloemfontein, and Phokeng the last thing that Marumo need is another four games in the play-offs having already played 46 matches this season.
