Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has expressed his delight at his new role as one of the club's captains at Mamelodi Sundowns despite having only joined at the beginning of the season.
In the absence of Themba Zwane, Teboho Mokoena donned the captain’s armband and the midfielder transferred it to Williams when he was substituted off in the second half, as Sundowns played to a 0-0 draw against Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.
"Captaining such a big brand in Africa, Mamelodi Sundowns, is amazing. Thanks to the coach and the technical team for believing in me and giving me the responsibility and you know it’s one that I enjoy and the lovely group players make it easy for me as well, it’s amazing, Williams told the club's media.
'Ronza' is no stranger to wearing the armband with the 31-year-old already captain of the Bafana Bafana and was instrumental in helping Broos’s side quality for the 2023 Afcon to kick off in January 2023.
Williams also captained former team SuperSport United in the later years of his 11-year stay with Matsatsantsa. The shot-stopper is now focused on returning to winning ways with Sundowns.

The Brazilians have uncharacteristically failed to win their last two encounters, playing to a draw on both occasions and Williams
"This is unlike us, to not score especially back-to-back games so yes, it’s for us to refocus, keep going and hopefully we can start banging in those goals.
Williams currently leads the race for the Golden Glove with 16 clean sheets under his belt. His closes competition is Richards Bay’s Salim Jamal Magoola with 11.
