Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile has found himself walking with questions over his shoulders in relation to the scoring pressure load that he is facing.

Sundowns have now played seven games without a goal from Shalulile with his last strike having been a penalty in the 1-0 win over TP Mazembe.

Shalulile has played six of those games.

With his last goal having come on March 2, the Namibian’s wait has now stretched six weeks leaving him with that one strike since the turn of the New Year.

Shalulile’s previous long wait for goals from October to December 2022 was due to injury.

The 30-year-old has 112 goals playing for a South African top league club leaving him in need of just a dozen to surpass Siyabonga Nomvete’s haul of 123.

His goals at Highlands Park while there were in the first division are not factored in.

To get to the target of 124 goals, Shalulile needs 12 goals from a minimum of 13 games which could grow to 17 if Sundowns reach the finals of both the Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League.

Next target is at least 20 goals for four seasons in a row which will surpass what Daniel Mudau delivered in his prime as a free scoring striker at Sundowns where he spent just about all his career.

Mudau reached the magical 20 figure for three consecutive campaigns (1998/99 – 26 goals, 1999/00 – 21, 2000/01 – 23).

Shalulile’s number read 22, 30, and 23 in the last three seasons.
