Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has emerged as point of focus for Esperance ahead of the CAF Champions League semi-final first leg on Saturday.

Sundowns are already in Tunis plotting how they can get past the stage where they got stuck last season just like Esperance.

It is a Champions League semi-final proper pitting the African Football League winners against the four-time winners of the Champions League who have played in this competition 20 times since the turn of the millennium.

With all the predictions flying around, Ronwen Williams’ name has been on the lips of many in Tunis who will be at the Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi as players, technical team members, fans, and the partisan media.

The illegal lasers will be directed at Williams in trying to distract his focus as is typical of North Africans when they engage in dirty tactics bordering on desperation to win.

Williams will be of interest to the Tunisian after having delivered to perfection for both club and country this season.

His showing at the recent AFCON led to him being voted as the best goalkeeper at the tournament after he kept five clean sheets in seven games and saved penalties while playing every minute of Bafana Bafana’s games.

At club level, Williams has 27 clean sheets in 37 games and has only conceded eight goals.

Three of the conceded goals were in the last two matches.

Williams has played all but one of the 16 games on the continent for Sundowns this season.

His Bafana game count in the last six months stands at 10.

The 32-year-old has pushed himself into the top tier of keepers on the continent which is why it will of no surprise when clubs from the Gulf Region start pursuing during the next transfer window.
