Mamelodi Sundowns have discovered who their opponents for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Champions League quarter-finals are.

The draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals and the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League quarter-finals was held in Cairo, Egypt on Tuesday.

After qualifying top of Group A, Sundowns have been drawn against Tanzanian giants Young Africans. The two teams will battle it out over two legs for a place in the semi-finals of the continent’s greatest triumph.

With SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United both having failed to progress to the knockout stages from the Confederation group stages, Sundowns remain the only the South Africa team still alive on the inter-continental football stage.

The eight teams remaining in the Champions League are: Young Africans (Tanzania), ASEC Mimosas (Cote d’Ivoire), Atletico Petroleos (Angola), TP Mazembe (DR Congo), Al Ahly (Egypt), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Simba SC (Tanzania), Esperance Sportive de Tunis (Tunisia).

Downs head coach Rulani Mokwena has made his Champions League ambitions no secret heading into the knockout stages.

"What will it take for us to win the Champions League? It will take a lot of consistency, a lot of hard work and a lot of luck. In this competition, to win, you need a little bit of luck," Mokwena said at the start of March.

"Last season, for example, with one game to go, Al Ahly are already out of the competition. Look at the AFCON; these types of competitions that are high level, there’s not so much difference between the big teams.

"Look at Ivory Coast, their story with how they won AFCON. Already out, coach out and these people after the last group match qualified, they go with that momentum and lift that trophy, same with Al Ahly."

Other draws will see Simba take on Al Ahly and TP Mazembe face off against Atlético Petróleos de Luanda. Esperance take on ASEC Mimosas.

The Brazilians have already proved their prowess on the international stages with a dominant display in the inaugural African Football League (AFL) earlier this season.
