Despite a loss, Lamontville Golden Arrows head coach Mabhuti Khenyeza was left impressed by one Kaizer Chiefs star the following the two team’s DStv Premiership clash on Tuesday.

Abafana Bes’thende were handed their 11th consecutive defeat across all competitions via a 1-0 defeat thanks to a first-half Wandile Duba strike.

The match was Duba's first start of the season, having come through the club's academy structures and impressed in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC).

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Khenyeza, a former striker himself, commended Chiefs for handing Duba the rare start.

"I think we have a lot of young players that are coming through in the system. I was happy to see Chiefs give a young player a chance," Khanyeza said.

"Duba, because we know them, we follow them when they played in the DDC (DStv Diski Challenge). It’s encouraging because we know his ability and he’s not been starting games for a long while.

"So, I was happy to see him in the starting eleven, because these are the boys that are going to take over. We don’t have other players. Now sometimes, we go and scout layers from outside, even from smaller leagues and give them opportunities.

Arrows themselves have a reputation for breeding young talent straight from their own academy.

"There are lots of them (promising young players), maybe tonight, there are five or six players who were playing against Kaizer Chiefs for the first time at FNB Stadium," Khenyeza added.

"Now it’s a good experience even for them. We always open doors to situations like that to bring younger players and hope that they will take over our system.

The defeat leaves Arrows in 11th spot on the table, but still just one point behind seventh-placed TS Galaxy.
