Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande has weighed in on why new signings don't live up to expectations and actually drop their standards after being signed by the club.

There are still question marks on why the players being signed by Chiefs in recent years cannot live up to expectations and actually appear to drop in performances compared to their previous clubs.

The quality currently at the Glamour Boys has been more in question than ever before after they did not contribute a single player in the Bafana Bafana Africa Cup of Nations squad recently.

The Soweto giants only had Sibongiseni Mthethwa listed as a standby player in the Bafana Afcon squad while rivals Mamelodi Sundowns had ten representatives and Orlando Pirates had four players representing the club.

Katsande says the biggest problem in talent identification at Chiefs is that the club have side-lined former players, who should be playing a key role in recruiting players who are the right fit at the club.

"You need those people to surround the club, we're eyes and ears of the team out there, so we recommend the right (players)," Katsande said on Izinja zeGame YouTube Channel.

"I can be a good player but I (may) not fit in at Chiefs. There are many good players but they can't fit. You need to understand Kaizer Chiefs DNA.

"You take this player, he's very good technically but can he fit at Chiefs? With respect to the player. That's why they come to Chiefs and they become even below average, because they don't have the character of being a Kaizer Chiefs player," he said.

"Like me I came from a village, I knew what is poverty, I was in a shack, when I got my pay-cheque I bought my mom a house and said you know what, I'll die inside the field," he added.

Sundowns currently have former midfielder Esrom Nyandoro playing a big role in recruiting the right players at the club as Head of Scouting.
