Fresh off signing his first senior contract with Kaizer Chiefs, rising star Mfundo Vilakazi has made a promise to Amakhosi supporters.

On Wednesday, the Soweto giants announced through the official club website that the 18-year-old had penned a fresh three-year deal that would keep him at Naturena until 2028.

Speaking to the club’s media department after the announcement, the youngster nicknamed "OB" vowed to live up to the hype his brief displays have attracted.

"I’m happy and excited to have a contract with a big club like Chiefs," Vilakazi said.

"It has always been my dream from a young age to play for the senior team and represent Kaizer Chiefs.

"I am looking forward to contributing to the club and paying back the management for believing in my talent.

"I thank all the supporters who always push me to do better, I promise not to disappoint," he added.

Chiefs moved swiftly to tie down the impressive youngster to a deal, having made just two appearances for the senior team – an impressive second-half performance in a Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash against Milford FC and a brief cameo in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.

"Mfundo’s promotion is a testament to the great work in our development structures," added club sporting director, Kaizer Motaung Jr.

"We have built an environment that is conducive to producing talent for the senior team, which is fundamental to the ethos of Kaizer Chiefs.

"We have some hard-working people - from under-13 to the reserve side - who do not focus purely on winning but mainly on producing top footballers for the senior team."

Vilakazi will be aiming to get yet another opportunity at game-time when the Glamour Boys take on Richards Bay FC at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday.
