Head coach Cavin Johnson has responded to questions over the side’s scoring crisis as Kaizer Chiefs completed a fourth consecutive match without finding the back of the net.

Amakhosi suffered an embarrassing 1-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Richards Bay FC at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday.

On the day, Chiefs made as many as 14 attempts at goal, with seven fining the target, but were unable to break their scoring drought.

At the other end of the field, Richards Bay landed just two shots on target and one of them was a header by captain Simphiwe Mcineka, which found the back of the net.

The Soweto giants have had a dreadful time in front of goal, scoring just five times in their last 10 league matches.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Johnson admitted that he was baffled by his side’s inability to score and may have taken a slight dig at his attackers in the process.

"We are all not psychologists, we are just technical coaches, football coaches. We have to look at them back again and understand why [the goals are not going in]," said Johnson.

"Why is it not happening? Why are the combinations not working? Why are they not having fun? You try and you do that in your training whereby you create many, many free goal-scoring opportunities where they can feel what it feels like.

"But it’s still not happening, maybe I need to take them for gun shooting or something and maybe they will be better.

"But at the moment, we have to dig deep in our technical staff and see what we can do to make the finishing and finished product, we have to go back and work.

"I’m the coach, it’s very very painful.

"It’s always difficult when that happens Your training is always based around finishing and when your training is based around finishing, you expect them to finish and you expect to win the goals.

"I’m sure a lot of you guys (journalists) know what type of coach I am. A lot of coaches say the best defence wins leagues. I think differently, you’ve got to have to best attackers to win the league.

Chiefs will have another chance to find their scoring boots when they host SuperSport United at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
