Former Kaizer Chiefs defender David Kannemeyer has endorsed the idea of Miguel Gamondi and Neil Tovey reuniting at the once-all-conquering Soweto giants.

Kannemeyer played under the duo during his four-year stay at Mamelodi Sundowns. The duo led the club to the league title in the 2005/06 season, working as co-coaches.

Gamondi returned to South African shores last weekend, albeit with Tanzanian giants Young Africans to face off with Masandawana in the second leg of the CAF Champions League, which was eventually won by the home side 3-2 on penalties following a 0-0 stalemate on aggregate.

It is an open secret that Amakhosi will have a new-look technical team next season as Cavin Johnson is holding the fort on a temporary basis, although a new coach is yet to be signed.

Speaking to KickOff earlier this week, Tovey recommended Gamondi for the hotly contested job, while also revealing he would not be against the idea of being his assistant. Kannemeyer has now come out to say he is in support of that suggestion.

"I'm sure Tovey and Gamondi can bring out the best in the Chiefs players. We had a great style with the two of them at Sundowns and we won the league with them," he tells this publication.

"A good plan for Chiefs would be to bring fresh brains that have been successful in South Africa before.

"Miguel, with Tovey, would be perfect for Chiefs. He is very fresh and very open-minded, he knows exactly what he wants, and that’s why he is doing well in Africa.

"Miguel allows his players to ask questions and he answers those questions. That's what made him and Tovey successful at Sundowns.

"He also kept players fit, because at the time, he also came as a fitness trainer, and when Angel Capa left he took the team over. Most importantly, he understands the South African football."

Gamondi's contract with Yanga expires at the end of the current season, and he has hinted at an exit, saying, "I cannot reveal my next plan with the club while I am not sure I will be with the team.
