SuperSport United failed to reclaim second spot on the DStv Premiership table following a 1-1 draw with AmaZulu on Saturday evening.

With duties in the CAF Confederation Cup over, Matsatsantsa were able to call on a number of regulars like Ricardo Goss, Onismor Bhasera, Thulani Hlatshwayo and Bradley Grobler.

Usuthu, who were chasing a maiden league win this year, were forced to make a change before kick-off after a bout of dizziness from Sede Dion had him make way for Victor Letsoalo.

It didn’t work against them but more to their liking where the self-same Letsoalo latched onto a delivery from Augustine Mulenga to plant a rasping header past Goss.

Diminutive Ethan Brooks showed steel of courage in possession later on and pushed a little higher to thread one in for Andile Mbanjwa, but Goss came out to narrow the angle.

Matsatsantsa were very much on the back-foot and offered little in the forward spaces – leaving Usuthu to have the lion share of moments to the goal.

Events from the first half forced United coach Gavin Hunt to revive the eleven and introduced Tendamudzimu Matodzi, Ghampani Lungu and Keenan Bezuidenhout.

Lungu instantly got stuck in when he came in out wide to drill a ball in for Grobler to attempt a finish off the head, but he directed well wide.

It really turned out to be a game of two halves, with the host now on the up and the boys from the KwaZulu-Natal sitting back in a hope to preserve their lead.

However, it didn’t go that way as a stunning effort from fullback Lyle Lakay levelled - giving Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Veli Mothwa no chance whatsoever.

Usuthu attempted to reclaim the lead from a corner in the final exchanges, but resolute defending by Ime Okon kept them out and ultimately saw the spoils shared.
