Sekhukhune United hammered Moroka Swallows 4-1 to leapfrog Kaizer Chiefs into sixth place on the DStv Premiership table on Saturday evening.
Once more, Sekhukhune featured a new face in goal as Renaldo Leaner replaced Badra Ali Sangare from their win over Royal AM before Daniel Akpeyi, Lindokuhle Mtshali and Gabadinho Mhango set out the eleven for the Dube Birds.
Babina Noko didn’t take long to find joy but were ahead on six minutes after captain Linda Mntambo dispatched with relative ease past Akpeyi.
Mntambo looked for a brace five minutes later from a ball over the top by Peter Mokhele, but he went wide by a mere inch on this particular occasion.
The Dube Birds began to get in their own following a difficult start and clear sight to goal came when Mhango fired over from a free-kick right outside the box.
However, the waiting ended on the stroke of halftime when one of the new additions Jacob Everson pulled himself to the fore to steer a well-timed finish past Leaner.
Bafana Bafana defender Nyiko Mobbie could’ve put the host in front again through a move involving Vusimuzi Mncube, but Akpeyi plucked out.
Sekhukhune took complete control a little in the second period as a header from Tresor Tshibwabwa from a corner put them back in front.
Another one followed as uncertain defending by the Dube Birds led Thamsanqa Masiya to take aim and finished quite comfortably.
Former SuperSport United midfielder Jamie Webber added to the equation when he latched onto a well-weighted move to find the net pretty comfortably.
Substitutions from the coach of Babina Noko happened late on, as Michael Sarpong and Kgomotso Mosadi notable came on the park.
The introductions didn’t urge them to add more but rather run down the final minutes to collect the victory to go sixth on the table.
