Moroka Swallows struck late in the second half to rescue a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu in DStv Premiership action on Tuesday evening.

Both sides were keen to back on the winning trail after Usuthu suffered a 3-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, while the Dube Birds played to a goalless draw against ten-man Kaizer Chiefs over the weekend.

Usuthu coach Pablo Franco Martin handed a start to Sede Dion in place of Augustine Kwem, while Hendrick Ekstein was also recalled in the midfield.

It was an evenly contested affair in the early stages of the first half, with the home side trying to their luck from distance as Ben Motswahri and Ethan Brooks stung the gloves of Swallows goalkeeper Daniel Akepyi.

While the Dube Birds struggled to carve out any openings at the other end, Usuthu went for a change in approach and withdrew midfielder Motshwari and introduced Kwem who joined Dion in the attack.

Swallows interim Musa Nyatama responded with a change of his own at the start of the second period, with Gregory Damons making way for Lwanda Mbanjwa as they looked to find the back of the net.

The opening goal did arrive with 16 minutes left on the clock as full-back Riaan Hanamub cut in from the left flank and sent a strike past Akpeyi for his first league goal of the season.

The game was seemingly headed for an AmaZulu until Swallows bagged the equaliser in the closing stages, with substitute Augustine Mahlonoko getting his first goal for the club in the 90th minute.

Confirmed line-ups:

AmaZulu: Mzimela, Jooste, Hanamub, Fielies, Gumede, Mphahlele, Motshwari, Brooks, Ngema, Ekstein, Dion
