Chippa United avoided a third straight loss in the DStv Premiership after defeating Cape Town Spurs 2-0 on Wednesday evening.

Spurs coach Ernst Middendorp handed recalls to Michael Morton and Jarrod Moroole after the late defeat to Moroka Swallows on Sunday, with Katlego Maphathe and Sphesihle Maduna dropping to the bench.

The visitors had some great incentive heading into the clash after Richards Bay suffered defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday evening, with a taking the side off the foot of the standings.

However, it was the Chilli Boys who got the breakthrough at the midway point in the first half through Sinoxolo Kwayiba's second league goal of the campaign.

Chippa also took a first-half lead in the reverse fixture earlier this season and were able to see out the rest of the encounter to claim maximum points on that ocassion in Cape Town.

Middendorp responded with an attacking change for the visiting side at halftime, with former Mamelodi Sundowns winger Bradley Ralani replacing Velebayi.

However, even with the changes in the second half, the men from Cape Town could not find a way back into the contest and slumped to a second consecutive defeat after Kayden Francis bagged the second goal for Chippa in the 86th minute.

Chippa, meanwhile, have climbed up to 11th position on the table, moving 12 points clear of the bottom two sides in the elague.

Confirmed line-ups:

Cape Town Spurs: Boschoff, Nkwali, Dortley, De Goede, Kamagi, Moroole, Bern, Morton, Butsaka, Cupido, Velebayi

Subs: Dlamini, Ralani, Buchanan, Moosa, Maduna, Gumede, Tshaya, Maphathe, Farmer
