Cape Town Spurs ended a four-match winless run in the DStv Premiership after defeating Richards Bay FC 1-0 on Friday evening.
Neil Boshoff returned from the home side’s loss to Sekhukhune United and had Rushwin Dortley, Therlo Moosa and Faiz Abrahams amongst the changes too, with Moses Mthembu in for the suspended Langelihle Mhlongo on the side of Richards Bay FC.
Spurs looked to go ahead four minutes in through a floated ball from a pin-point corner-kick, but Asanele Velebayi’s snap shot bundled off the ground and behind goal.
Boshoff didn’t have it any easy eight minutes apart and pushed to the near post to guide a surging corner from Sanele Barns away from the supposed target.
The host still enjoyed the lion share of momentum around the half-hour mark and saw Ashley Cupido come short to cut inside after a drop of the shoulder and worked Salim Magoola to a save.
Yet another chance went abegging for the host when Liam Bern applied a penetrative run to the centre area and came inside to hit foot of the post after a quick one-two.
Richards Bay came extremely close to the lead just before halftime after Mthembu’s first-time from the far side cracked off the upright and back into play with Boshoff well beaten.
Before the second half, the Urban Warriors made a change and removed Abrahams to bring on Orlando Pirates loanee Boitumelo Radiopane.
Spurs were keen to hit the ground running moments from the break, but battled to get clear efforts in and pose danger to the opposite number Magoola.
Another golden opportunity came the way of the host minutes later from a corner in the latter stages, but Dortley mis-timed the delivery and missed.
Spurs made the momentum count four minutes from time when a pin-point cross on the left from Gadiel Michael Kamagi met Radiopane who headed over the advancing Magoola.
The Natal Rich Boys looked to level matters in the remaining seconds, but the Urban Warriors remained calm and claimed to win to boost their survival aspirations.
