Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has elevated himself to a deserved move away from Chippa United after only 24 appearances.

Nwabali signed for Chippa in October 2022 and only played nine games through the 2022/23 season as Namibian keeper Lloyd Kazapua played ahead of him.

Into the 2023/24 season, Nwabali worked his way to the front of the queue and has been dishing out solid performances between with seven clean sheets in 15 games.

Such numbers at a club like Chippa United – who usually struggle in the bottom half – are an achievement and this is no surprise Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has taken notice.

The 27-year-old was between the posts in the AFCON opener against Equatorial Guinea and is expected to keep his place for the rest of the tournament.

What Nwabali has done at Chippa, which has led to his call-up – has attracted interest from abroad with Belgian club Royale Union Saint-Gilloise pointed out as being keen.

There have also been enquiries from Saudi Arabia which will all be determined by what Nwabali does for the Super Eagles at the AFCON.

While Chippa will be tempted to cash in, they might still be stuck with no incoming option due to a FIFA imposed transfer ban.

According to the latest information from FIFA, Chippa will now not be able to make signings for three consecutive transfer windows effective November 14, 2023, due to issues relating to Tanzanian defender Abdi Banda.

This means the Chilli Boys will not be able to do any transfer business in the current window through to the July/August off-season window and again in January 2025 if Banda’s matter remains unresolved.

Chippa earlier today announced the departure of midfielder Thabiso Labitso from the club.
