Cape Town City chairman John Comitis, has revealed for the first time how the club manages to sign the right players, despite not being a big team.

City has managed to put itself amongst the Premier Soccer League title-chasing pack, after making crucial signings and currently sit in second position on the DStv Premiership log table.

Last week, City shocked the South African football fraternity with the announcement of former Leicester City midfielder Khaya Leshabela.

Speaking to KickOff, Comitis has expressed how relationships that he has built over the years, has since paid off.

"I have got a fantastic network of 25 years," Comitis tells KickOff.

"I always take anyone's calls. I never ignore any agent, even if he is small because you never know who is going to have the right player.

"We always do the homework, we get the footage, we watch the players, we do the homework and then we put them in the shortlist.

"We keep monitoring the players and if it's the right time we have a list of players. If we are looking for a left-back, left-wing... We go back to our notes and then we start investigating again," he said.

"So any moment we know we can supply the club with a list of players. That's why it is not difficult for us to sign players.

"When we decide to sell a player it's because we already know are we replacing him. Bigger clubs tried to poach some of our players from our development, but they only managed one out of six. So the rest of them stayed.

"Money is not always everything for these young players. For example now, we have two youngsters in Europe, possibly they going stay there, and we already have replacements in place."
