SuperSport United booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup with a 3-1 victory over Richards Bay on Saturday afternoon.

SuperSport made four changes following their 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns, as goalkeeper Ricardo Goss returned after he was ineligible against his parent club, alongside Onismor Bhasera, Terrence Dzvukamanja and Gape Moralo.

Richards Bay, meanwhile, kept virtually the same line-up after their goalless draw against TS Galaxy, as Somila Ntsundwana replaced Yamela Mbuthuma in the line-up.

Matsatsantsa had a perfect start after Shandre Campbell gave them the lead within the first six minutes with a stunning free-kick.

The game opened up after that and Gavin Hunt's charges had more opportunities but they were let down by their finishing.

The Natal Rich Boyz's persistence paid off just before the interval after they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Ntsundwana in the box.

However, Justice Figuareido stepped up for Vusumuzi Vilakazi's men but his spot-kick was saved by Goss in the bottom corner.

The hosts lost their concentration and were punished on the stroke of half-time after Campbell doubled the lead for United, completed his brace with a strike from a rebound after Grant Margeman's shot was blocked in the box.

Richards Bay came back from the break with a different strategy after making four changes that included Mbuthuma and Langelihle Mhlongo in attack.

The changes made the difference, as just after the hour-mark, Sibusiso Mthethwa had a glancing header for Richards Bay that came off the upright.

SuperSport were not attacking much anymore in the closing stages, as they sat deep to defend their two-goal cushion.

However, the Natal Rich Boyz eventually reduced the deficit five minutes before time after Mthethwa fired home a strike from a rebound in the box.

Richards Bay continued to pressurize Matsatsantsa in the dying minutes and were punished from a counter-attack after goalkeeper Salim Magoola went out for a corner and Gamphani Lungu finished off the move for the visitors with a strike into goal that was guarded by only one player.
