Hungry Lions coach Henry Basie has promised Orlando Pirates war in their weekend upcoming Nedbank Cup encounter.

The match is expected to be another easy passage to the next round for the Buccaneers, who reached the Last 16 by beating Mpumalanga province's ABC Motsepe League side Crystal Lake 6-0, while Lions beat fellow Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit JDR Stars 1-0.

However, Basie says the Soweto giants have finally met their match as the two teams share a lot in common.

"The boys, they are excited. Pirates are a very well-structured and very well-organized team, so they will know how to deal with us," Basie tells KickOff.

"But we have our way of playing, so we will make this difficult for them. We are up for the opportunity, as in what is gonna happen at the end of the day, there’s a lot of things that we saw in the Soweto Derby, but these things can change.

"It is mostly in terms of how they play, but also it comes down to player performance.

"So if you dig into it too much, you will get caught because they can chop and change the team as they want. It's a cup game, so it's gonna be an end-to-end stuff, it's gonna be attack on attack. That is how we see it and that is how we’re going to approach it.

"I always give myself 100% of chances of winning because we are up for the fight, and we want to display a good performance of football. The upset will be there on Saturday. At this moment, we are very positive that we are gonna go all out and give our best.

"Hungry Lions is built around Orlando Pirates because everything about them we do have, the colours... so, we are like small Pirates, mini-Pirates.

"The founder of the team is a Pirates supporter, so everything in this team is about Pirates. So, the ins and outs of Pirates, it's here. We are going to the Saturday night match to be seen as the next Pirates.

"Pirates can run, and Hungry Lions can run. Both teams can run. It's going to be a nice match to watch. Pirates have met their match this time around. It's run for run."
