CT Spurs remain top despite defeat to Callies

Cape Town Spurs 1-2 Pretoria Callies

Cape Town Spurs missed the chance to stretch their lead at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table following a 2-1 loss to Pretoria Callies on Sunday afternoon at Athlone Stadium.

Oswin Appollis broke the deadlock for Callies midway through the first stanza and Keorapetse Sebone doubled their lead early in the second stanza.

Therlo Moosa reduced the deficit for Spurs 21 minutes before time.

Shaun Bartlett's charges held on to top spot on the log by virtue of a better goal difference than second-placed Casric Stars while the Romans remained in ninth place.

Venda Football Academy 3-2 Polokwane City

Polokwane City were denied a chance to reclaim top spot after they narrowly lost against Venda Football Academy in a five-goal thriller, Limpopo derby at Thohoyandou Stadium.

Edmore Chirambadare broke the deadlock for Venda on 33 minutes and Polokwane equalised just before the break.

Rhulani Manzini restored the lead for VFA nine minutes  into the second stanza but Joel Masutha's troops were pegged back again with six minutes to go.

However, Tatenda Tavengwa snatched the winner for Venda in stoppages. 

Rise and Shine remain in third place on the log, just a point behind leaders Cape Town Spurs while VFA moved up to 12th.

Baroka 0-1 JDR Stars

JDR Stars got over their five-game winless run after a narrow 1-0 win over Baroka on Saturday afternoon at Global Stadium.

The win moved the Hammer Boyz slightly up to  sixth on the log while Baroka dropped down to 13th.

All Stars 3-0 Hungry Lions

All Stars revived their hopes of a promotion play-off spot after hammering rivals Hungry Lions 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Tsakane Stadium.

The win for Umlilo reduced the deficit behind third-placed Polokwane City to eight points in fifth place and just a point behind Lions, who are lying fourth.

Black Leopards 1-1 Casric Stars

Casric Stars missed the chance to return to the top of the table after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Black Leopards on Saturday afternoon at Malamulele Stadium.

Casric remained second on the log, equal on points with leaders Cape Town Spurs but with an inferior goal difference while Leopards remained at the bottom of the log, nine points from safety.

Uthongathi 3-0 Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila

Uthongathi piled more misery on Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila after thrashing them 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Princess Magogo Stadium.

Nkwunda and Hamza Zakari gave Uthongathi a two-goal cushion before Nkwunda settled the tie early in the second stanza and completed his brace.

The Cane Cutters remained in seventh spot on the log while Lidoda Duvha were languishing in 15th place and are eight points from safety.

Platinum City Rovers 0-1 University of Pretoria

University of Pretoria won for the first time in six matches after a last-gasp 1-0 win over Platinum City Rovers on Friday afternoon at Olen Park Stadium.

After a goalless first stanza, Ayanda Mvambi eventually got the decisive goal for AmaTuks with four minutes remaining.

AmaTuks climbed up to eighth on the log while City Rovers dropped down to third-from-bottom.

NB La Masia 0-1 Magesi

Magesi ended their four-game winless run after edging NB La Masia 1-0 on Friday afternoon at Tsakane Stadium.

The sides could not be separated in the first stanza but Bafedile Baloyi eventually broke the deadlock for Magesi early in the second stanza.

Magesi leapfrogged La Masia by two points and a place in 11th spot on the log.
