Stellenbosch FC 1-0 Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates saw their lead at the top of the DStv Diski Challenge table reduced following a 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch FC at the Idas Valley Stadium on Saturday.

After a slow opening, Pirates went close to the breakthrough late in the first half through Mohau Nkota but Tylon Smith recovered and produced a goal-line clearance.

Stellenbosch were ahead though five minutes in the second half from a well-taken finish from inside the penalty area by new boy Thulani Mini.

The Maroons had the Buccaneers by the ropes and could’ve extended the lead from a few decent chances but a combination of good goalkeeping by Zoey Monyepao and the woodwork kept them at bay.

It didn’t end well for the Maroons though as Jaylen Trent received his marching orders in the final minute for a rash challenge, but it didn’t affect them as they still got the win.

Golden Arrows 4-2 Sekhukhune United

Golden Arrows emerged from the drubbing by Orlando Pirates to get their first win this year following an entertaining 4-2 triumph over Sekhukhune United.

Omar Zuma got the host ahead on 12 minutes and Samukelo Mlaba popped up just over five minutes to halftime to extend the lead before a quick double from Kabelo Ngobeni in the second half levelled things.

Abafana Besthende enjoyed the final say though as Mlaba nabbed a brace – leaving Siyanda Mthanti to add the final nail in Babina Noko’s coffin.

Chippa United 3-1 AmaZulu

Chippa United bounced back from last weekend’s loss with a 3-1 win over the struggling AmaZulu and registered their first win of the year too.

Kayden Francis lightened up the earlier exchanges when he played an integral part in the build-up for a certain Asanele Bonani to give them a ninth minute cushion.

Francis continued to run the show four minutes apart and delivered a smart ball for Schaba Mofokeng to bulge the net and make it 2-0.

Chippa didn’t take the foot of the accelerator and found a third just after halftime through a powerful header from Luzuko Ngqina.

There were a bit of fight from the strugglers as Siphamandla Zikhali converted from the spot, but it was just a consolation as the Chilli Boys claimed the full complement of points.

TS Galaxy 2-1 Royal AM

TS Galaxy put up a brave display to overcome Royal AM 2-1 in a mid-table contest and bounced back from last Sunday’s loss to Kaizer Chiefs.

The Rockets were in the ascendancy at the course of the interval with two unanswered strikes, but Thwihli Thwahla clawed one back in the second half though no comeback followed.

In the end, the Rockets got back to winning ways to remain in the top eight with Royal AM in the bottom-half and on a zero goal-difference.
