Stellenbosch FC 2-1 Mamelodi Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns were unable to stretch the lead at the top of the DStv Diski Challenge standings following a 2-1 loss to Stellenbosch FC in a top-of-the-table showdown on Sunday.
The Maroons didn’t take time to get stuck in but hit the ground running right from the onset through a slice of good fortune before Thulani Mini added to give them the perfect cushion at the interval.
Sundowns did pull one back and looked to salvage something from the clash, but were unable to do so and left the Maroons to walk away with all the points on offer.
AmaZulu 1-2 Cape Town Spurs
Cape Town Spurs registered a second straight win and continued to sit tight in the mid-table bracket courtesy of a 2-1 triumph over AmaZulu.
The Urban Warriors followed this on the back of last weekend’s over provincial rivals and title chasers Stellenbosch FC, whilst Usuthu’s disastrous season down the quagmire continues.
Richards Bay FC 5-0 TS Galaxy
Richards Bay FC maintained their winning run of form and moved further up the table following a resounding 5-0 victory over TS Galaxy.
Thandoluhle Gazu got the ball rolling before Wandile Ngema and Siphesihle Buthelezi added to the advantage around the end of the first period.
A brace from Ngema came albeit from the spot and had Nkosikhona Ndaba round up the contest late on albeit from the penalty spot.
Chippa United 0-4 Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs continued their strong push towards the top-three in the DStv Premiership after crushing Chippa United 4-0 on Saturday.
The victory guides the Amakhosi into third spot on the table ahead of bitter rivals Orlando Pirates, who they defeated in the Soweto derby last weekend.
Sekhukhune United 0-0 Orlando Pirates
Orlando Pirates were denied the chance to restore their title charge and stuttered to a goalless draw against Sekhukhune United.
The Buccaneers, who not too long ago, hovered in second spot a stone throw away from the top are now down in fourth-place and on a four-match winless streak.
Likewise, the fortunes for Babina Noko don’t look to rosy either at this point and have them on an eight match winless run.
SuperSport United 1-0 Cape Town City
Reigning champions SuperSport United bounced back from last weekend’s Tshwane defeat to see off Cape Town City 1-0 in Atteridgeville.
It was tight throughout with a draw seemingly on the cards, but Matsatsantsa stole the points through a last-gasp finish from Kabelo Selowa.
With the win, the title holders moved level on points with the self-same Citizens as the two sit just a position above each other in fifth and sixth-place respectively.
Royal AM 0-0 Golden Arrows
Royal AM and Golden Arrows cancelled out each other with a goalless draw in a keenly fought KwaZulu-Natal derby.
This extends Thwihli Thwahla’s run without a win to three matches, whilst Abafana Besthende failed to build onto last Saturday’s victory over fellow Durban side AmaZulu.
Moroka Swallows 2-3 Polokwane City
Polokwane City recorded just their second win of the season and thus ended a string of losses following a 3-2 victory over Moroka Swallows in a relegation battle.
Before this, Rise and Shine drew with Sekhukhune United but prior to that gone on a seven-match losing run with this win over the Dube Birds leaving them rooted to the table.
The Dube Birds came into the match with a win over TS Galaxy but now are on the back-foot again in their plight to surge up the table.
