Midfielder Themba Zwane has identified the 'perfect way' to start the new year as Bafana Bafana prepare for their AFCON opening match against Mali.

Bafana Bafana have landed in the CAN village in Korhogo that will serve as their base as they look to begin preparation for their first group stage matches against Mali on Tuesday.

The team, which includes a mixture on experience in the likes Themba Zwane and Percy Tau, as well as some youth Thapelo Maseko and Jayden Adams, is looking to improve on their quarter-final AFCON finish in 2019.

Zwane, who won the league title, CAF Champions League and most recently the African Football League (AFL) with Mamelodi Sundowns, is aiming to kick-off the new year in title winning fashion.

"Doing well at AFCON will be a perfect way to start the year, and I cannot wait for the tournament to begin," Zwane told the national team.

For Mamelodi Sundowns, we are dreaming big to achieve greatness next year; we would love to win the seventh consecutive league title. The CAF Champions League is also on our agenda and we hope to participate in the Club World Cup."

The talismanic midfielder previously revealed in an exclusive interview with KickOff that winning silverware with the national team has always been a dream.

"We have a good team, we have an understanding, we have a brotherhood. We have a team to go and compete at the AFCON.

"The hunger will always be there, as long as I have the opportunity to represent the national team, the hunger will be there. I just want to win things with the national team.

"It’s always been my dream to win things in the national team."

Alongside Mothobi Mvala and Ronwen Williams, Zwane missed out on Bafana's practice match against Lesotho on Wednesday but the team's medical doctor has assured that the trio should be ready for Mali.

After Mali, South Africa take on Namibia on 21 January before wrapping up the group stage against Tunisia on 24 January.
