Head coach Hugo Broos has heaped praise on striker Lyle Foster who scored the match-winning goal as Bafana Bafana battled to a 1-0 victory over DR Congo on Tuesday night.

Bafana went ahead just 25 minutes in at Orlando Stadium through Foster by were made to sweat to protect their lead with DR Congo growing in confidence as the game progressed.

The visitors managed to land six shots on targets from 13 while Bafana managed three from six attempts, although Bafana enjoyed 57% of possession.

Foster delivered a Man of the Match winning performance despite being played out of position in an unfamiliar false-nine or playmaker role.

Broos explained the decision in his post-match press conference.

"We knew that we had a little problem because Themba Zwane is not there, so we needed to find a solution," Broos said.

"I can't say it was bad with [Lyle] Foster and Zakhele [Lepasa] but I don't think it was also good. So we need to be prepared for that because it can also happen in the next games.

"That's why I said a few moments ago that we are looking for somebody in that position and we thought okay, if anybody in this team maybe Lyle can do it. So, you can't blame him that we didn't see what we wanted to see.

"This is not his position, it was just trying that with him there, we could find a solution. But it's not a solution, but again, Lyle was important for the goal.

"This is also something that is positive. Even in his team Burnley. They have zero points but he has scored already two times. This is also good for his confidence and also good for us, to have a player that can score.

"Not even on a real location to score, but he is there, he is dangerous and he showed it against today."
