Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has hailed the Bafana Bafana squad for a unified effort at the AFCON 2023 and picked one player in the team whose individual brilliance has stood out.

South Africa secured a third-place finish at the 2023 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast after defeating DR Congo 5-4 on penalties following  a goalless draw.

Broos' men also scooped three accolades at the AFCON in the Fair Play award, Bronze medal and Ronwen Williams' Golden Glove but could go progress as far as the semi-final following a 4-2 defeat to Nigeria.

Speaking at the 10bet Bafana viewing experience at PDL Lifestyle in Soweto after the match, Khumalo, who lifted the prestigious trophy with Bafana in 1996, had plenty of praise for the current group of players and made special mention of captain Williams.

"I can’t say it was one player," Khumalo responded when asked to pick a player that had impressed the most.

"[For example] we can say Mark Williams was the star in 96’ but if those passes were not there he wasn’t going to be able to [score a brace],"

"I would like to say it was team effort but this one,  Ronwen Williams made the difference.

"We played as a team but an individual can make the difference. I don’t want to say he was the best [player in the Bafana team] but he made a difference.

"So, the team played well but an individual made difference, that is Ronwen."

Bafana now turn their attention to a friendly match against Andorra in March.
