Striker Zakhele Lepasa has shed some light on Bafana Bafana’s AFCON campaign as South Africa returned with three accolades.

South Africa clinched a bronze medal finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ivory Coast after beating DR Congo 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw.

Broos’ men also scooped three accolades at the AFCON in the form of the Fair Play award, a bronze medal and Ronwen Williams’ Golden Glove, but could not progress further than as the semi-finals following a 4-2 defeat to Nigeria in a penalty shootout.

Lepasa, who appeared in all seven of Bafana's matches at AFCON,  took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts on the continental competition.

"It has been an intense 7 weeks with this incredible group," Lepasa said.

"I am immensely proud of how far we have come. I am proud to be part of this beautiful history.

"It does not end here. KEEP BELIEVING!"

Bafana returns to home shores with a record of four wins, a draw and two defeats from AFCON, including leaving number one-ranked Morocco in their wake.

The next AFCON edition returns to North Africa in 2025 as Morocco will play host. Bafana players are already looking to make a better showing, according to midfielder Sphephelo Sithole.

"I think we have shown that we are capable of beating anyone in this tournament," Sithole said via the SAFA media department.

"So I think we are going to come back with a strong mentality that will help us even more maybe to win the next AFCON."

For now, Bafana turned their attention to a friendly match against Andorra to be played in March.
