Why Sekhukhune is quickly becoming a fashionista club

One could make a case that while Mamelodi Sundowns are miles ahead of Sekhukhune United on the league table, the two sides are arguably on the same level in one specific category. Here's a look!

The story

It goes without saying that fashion is subjective, as the word's definition differs from from person to person. Although that may be the case, there's a general benchmark to determine whether someone is stylish or not. It is indescribable using words, however, most people generally can tell if you're relatively looking stylish or not.

Downs might be unrivaled in the country in terms of football as they are running away with the DStv Premiership title for yet another season, but they are not known to have the most stylish players in the division.

Last season, many could agree that Orlando Pirates were the leaders in terms of fashionistas, as they had Vincent Pule, Thabang Monare, Linda Mntambo, and Wayde Jooste all in one dressing room. Furthermore, it seemed as though no other club could boast as many drip enthusiast as the Buccaneers, thus they claimed KickOff Lifestyle's unofficial kings of drip title.

Mntambo and Jooste have since moved on, with striker Tshegofatsho Mabasa joining the former at Sekhukhune on loan. The Bucs loanee also holds in his own style-wise, as there is essentially nothing one can criticise about the marksman's choice of outfits. Mabasa has proven to be well aware of his appearance and he recently dyed his fade, becoming Babina Noko's very own Alejandro Garnacho.

It seems that there's not enough that can be said about Mntambo, as the skipper continues to break stereotypes using fashion. The midfielder was spotted rocking a skirt on the weekend, looking nothing short of fashionable. The 33-year-old has quickly established himself as one of the most unique football fashionistas, having previously rocked a few skirts with soccer t-shirts.

While the general perception might be that his style is unconventional, the likes of Pule, Neverdie Delakufa, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Zakhele Lepasa, and Mpho Maboi have already given the outfit a thumbs-up in the Instagram comments section.

With fashion being somewhat of a culture also, it should not surprise anyone that the arrival of Mabasa and Mntambo at Sekhukhune has motivated others to step up their games when it comes to drip.

There are no criticisms against Sundowns in this regard but due to the vast difference between them and the rest of the teams in terms of football, it is notable that they do not top all metrics that keep fans interested in the beautiful game.

Many of the stars at Chloorkop are not as open on Instagram about their lifestyle, with the likes of Peter Shalulile not even having a single picture of himself on Instagram despite being a superstar in South Africa.

Perhaps football is their primary focus and that is paying off handsomely. However, it is quite fair to rank the Brazilians in the bottom eight clubs in terms of star style, as only Gaston Sirino flies the flag in this regard.
