With Mamelodi Sundowns legend Teko Modise having undergone laser treatment for his eyesight, here's why the former playmaker's recent procedure is important.

The story

On Monday, Modise revealed that he had finally completed the procedure to help put his eyesight issues behind him. In a video he posted on his official Instagram account, he said: "After having issues for so many years regarding my eyes, I can’t wait to fully have my vision back. SafeSight Eye thanks guys."

Why Dona did it!

According to several optometry outlets, the procedure is done to improve or correct several eye conditions, including short-sightedness, long-sightedness, and presbyopia, which is said to be the difficulty seeing up close as we get older.

While we aren't sure what The Navigator's exact condition is or was, the treatment is known to reshape the outer layer of the eye called the cornea. This layer can change in shape, thus leading to vision impairment issues - which Modise has admitted to having experienced throughout the years.

Jokingly, the 39-year-old seemed to have perfect vision during his heyday, as he was known for his pinpoint distribution from the middle of the park.

Nicknamed 'The General', the ex-maestro used to dictate play with ease, and many would agree that he showed no obvious weaknesses during his playing career, as he could whip aerial balls across the park and spot a teammate making a run off the bat - thus it was a bit of surprise to know that the former Bafana Bafana star has eyesight troubles.

It was also interesting to find out that the procedure is said to be quick and painless, but should a patient experience any sort of pain then it usually suggests there have been complications.
