Tinkler: Chiefs game is not really my concern

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has stated that the MTN8 quarter-final against Kaizer Chiefs is not what concerns him.

City host Chiefs on Sunday at Athlone Stadium (15h00) brimming with confidence after recording two wins from the opening two league games against Polokwane City and Moroka Swallows.

Tinkler's men join champions Mamelodi Sundowns as one of two teams with a perfect start in the DStv Premiership.

Ahead of their next encounter against Amakhosi, Tinkler was asked if his approach will change for the cup encounter.

"Sometimes it does because the cup is four or five games and you find yourself in the final," says Tinkler.

"So, the hunger and desire sometimes is more for the cup than what it is for the league.

"So, I'm 150% sure that the guys are going to be up for it come Sunday for the game against Chiefs.

"That game (against Chiefs) is not really my concern but the next one against SuperSport the Friday night after is.

"Can we ensure that we put on a good performance against Chiefs and then refocus again in the league because the league is just as important if not more important," says Tinkler while noting why cup games are 'a bit of freebie'.

"For me as a coach, I have always believed that cup competitions are a bit of freebies because it is only four or five games to earn yourself a trophy.

"So, I enjoy the cup games and try to pass it on to the players because we have not been successful in the cup games.

"We are hungry to get back there having lost in the final to Sundowns two years ago while last season we didn't get into any final.

"We would love to see ourselves in the final again this season so that is the ambition.

"We are definitely more serious about the league," says Tinkler.
