Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson has provided clarity on comments he made that his players were arguing in their loss to Richards Bay FC.
"I can tell you that my players in the dressing room are arguing with each other because these are the things we know we should be better, but it was not to be today," Johnson said in part after his side lost 1-0 to Richards Bay last week.
However, after his side's 2-1 win over SuperSport United on Saturday, Johnson sought to provide clarity over his previous statements, saying that his players had a conversation over how they could improve, rather than a full-blown argument.
"I think before I say anything according to that, I was misquoted," he told journalists in attendance.
"We all read the papers but I think that was a misquote from somebody that said. My players are arguing – no they’re not arguing. It's a normal conversation that you have 95% of the game and you can't score the goal. It's normal for players to ask each other to find out, but like it was quoted, we were arguing and I don't think that is the right message to say to my 16 million supporters.
"They were not arguing, they were talking about how we gonna get better? And yes, we went back to the drawing board to try to fix it, not fixed it, but we trained a little bit more on how they must finish.
"And today [Christian] Saile scored a goal that he scores every day in training. Other days, other games he doesn't score the same goal. [Mduduzi] Shabba scores a goal today that in training we set up the drills and the one really specifically for technique only, and today he uses it in the goal where you think it’s coming with power but it comes with technique. We are happy because at least we got two [goals] today. Last week and the week before we got zero goals but we still played good football," he said.
Chiefs' next task is against Mamelodi Sundowns, who they face at the FNB Stadium on Thursday.
