Nigeria international midfielder Oghenekaro Peter Etebo was given permission to depart from the FIFA World Cup squad in order to complete a move to England yesterday.
After spending the latter half of last season on loan in LaLiga with Las Palmas, Etebo has signed a lucrative five-year contract with recently relegated Stoke City - who will be looking for an immediate return to the Premier League.
The promising Super Eagles midfielder has been capped 14 times for his country and provides Gary Rowett's side a goal-scoring option from midfield based on his previous exploits at Warri Wolves and in the Primeira Liga with Feirense.
"We're really excited to have got the deal over the line for Etebo. I'm looking forward to seeing him in a Stoke City shirt as I'm sure our supporters are too," Rowett told the club's website.
"Etebo is a very mobile, energetic midfielder and he’s a great age. He has played in the top divisions in Portugal and Spain and, of course, he's heading into the World Cup with Nigeria which will be an amazing experience for him."
The 2015 CAF Youth Player of the Year helped Nigeria win a bronze medal in the 2016 summer Olympics with four goals during the tournament.
