Former Chiefs striker steers Maccabi FC into National First Division

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Collins Mbesuma scored and assisted a goal to help Gauteng side Maccabi FC into the National First Division next season.

'Ntofontofo' has gone from being relegated to the second division with one club to helping another earn promotion from South Africa's third tier.

The 34-year-old joined the ABC Motsepe League outfit just three months ago, after being clubless since leaving Highlands Park at the end of last season.

His experience has proven pivotal to Maccabi's achievement as they went from winning the Gauteng stream to navigating their way through the play-offs to reach the final – subsequently earning automatic promotion.

The ex-Chipolopolo man came off the bench to score his side's second goal and assisted the third in a 3-1 win over Limpopo's The Dolphins FC in their play-off semi-final on Thursday afternoon.

Maccabi are now in the running for the R1-million prize money, and await the outcome of the second semi-final between Free State's Mangaung Unite and Mpumalanga's TS Sporting this afternoon.
