De Sa surprised many when he started the Absa Premiership game against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday without star players Sibusiso Mahlangu, Marawaan Bantam and Bievenu Tipa in the midfield.
Speaking to KickOff.com, the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper said he opted for players that impressed at training prior to the game against the Brazilians on Sunday.
“I field players according to their performance at training and the players I picked against Sundowns which deserved to be playing as they impressed me at training.
“All my players are equal and I will always pick the first 11 players based on their performance at training.”
De Sa also explained his reason for releasing Zambian midfielder Clifford Mulenga who had started the season with the Students on a high note to Thanda Royal Zulu.
“He had personal problems which I cannot divulge to media. There is no doubt that Clifford is hell of a player, but in football talent is not enough; you need other things to complement it to be a great player.”
