Scott ready to move back to Cape Town

Posted: 6 June 2008 Time: 05:00

Speedy striker Carlo Scott believes a move back to his home town of Cape Town will suit his career if Bloemfontein Celtic opts not to renew his contract which runs out at the end of the month.

Though there is growing speculation that his services are no longer required at Celtic, Scott says nothing of the sort has been communicated to him.

“For now I am not sure if I am going back to Celtic. My contract expires at the end of June and the club hasn’t been in touch with me regarding the possibility of an extension. So, for now, I consider myself out-of-contract at the end of the month.

“But if it happens that I don’t stay with Celtic, then I would rather come back to Cape Town. I feel I will be better suited with a return back home so as to be closer to home and my family.

“Maybe and hopefully I can rekindle the form that I enjoyed the last time I was in Cape Town with Santos.

“I won’t mind staying on at Celtic because the fans have been good to me even when I haven’t contributed much. Maybe when a new coach comes in I may be in his plans, but if I am out, then Cape Town could be my destination,” says Scott, while admitting he hasn’t had the best of seasons.

“I had a slight injury at the beginning of the season but otherwise I was always available for selection. But I just wasn’t the one preferred by the coach and so that was the reason why I didn’t play much. In the few games that I played, I feel I did well but the decision on whether I stay with Celtic will obviously rest with management and the technical staff.

“For now I am focusing on making sure that my fitness is up to standard even though it is off season,” says the striker who was celebrating his 28th birthday when KickOff.com spoke to him on Thursday.

Though he made his debut a decade ago at Cape Town Spurs, Scott hasn’t genuinely produced the kind of talent he showed early on at Ajax Cape Town before a big money move to Mamelodi Sundowns.

He has been to both Sundowns and Santos twice and has also played at Moroka Swallows.
