Rwanda change venue for Eagles

Nigeria's 2013 African Nations Cup qualifier against Rwanda will not be played at the Amahoro Stadium, but a smaller facility also in the capital city of Kigali, officials have disclosed.

NFF Acting Secretary General Musa Amadu says he has been officially communicated by his counterpart from the Rwanda FA that the February 29 match will be played at the Stade Regional de Kigali.

“We have been informed that the match will be played at a different stadium because the Amahoro Stadium is under renovation,” Amadu disclosed.

The new match venue is a smaller facility with a capacity for 22 000 fans although, like the Amahoro, has an artificial pitch. It is also the home ground of the country’s biggest club APR.

The Amahoro Stadium, on the other hand, is Rwanda’s national stadium and has a bigger capacity of 30 000.

Hmmmmm..Nawa o !

Why the sudden shift in venue ?
Did the renovation start recently ?

Nigeria lost the 2006 world cup ticket under Kano state scorching-sun.
Nigeria also lost the 2012 Afcon ticket in a scalding Abuja weather.

Taking our memories back, Portharcourt Stadium became a 'slaughter ground' for Nigeria en route 2002 Fifa World cup ( including a 3-0 spanking of Ghana).

Football, especially in Africa goes beyond the activities people see inside 100-130 yards and 50-100 yards, many African countries adopt the Philosophy of using every strategy to win games and secure tickets to competitions but in Nigeria quota system supersedes National happiness.

Na my mind i talk sha.

I am in agreement with you game147 tha part of the strateg of winning games is the venue selection that favors the home team. The problem with us is that we rely too much on foreign based players. These players pla in diferent climate than what we have at home. Unless the matches ae plaed between June and October tere is a weather factor.

Fela said its JOORO! JAARA! JOORO!!. i laf in swahili. the mind game has started. Naija wey u dey??? at the end it will be a bumpy pitch in a kigali village where they will trash SE.

Game147: 2012-02-21 20:28

@Ola, You're welcome bro.
@Kerewa, You have an Eagle eye, however, I wish SE good-luck.

Even if the venue is shifted to 'san-san-five-aside-pitch' , an outright win is very paramount for SE.

@Topstarz your right about upgrading the National Stadium in Lagos.
The federal government doesn't have to do much to show the people that they are doing much. They just have to be very strategic. A good strategy would be to make all the stadiums in Nigeria look ultra-modern and keep them looking like that (with designer pitches, et al).
Since football is very important to Nigerians, people seeing those ultra-modern stadiums would be convinced that things are really moving forward. Perception is reality!!!
This will be a good way for the federal government of Nigeria to defeat all of the militants' propaganda.

We are not careful about their (Rwanda) antics. Whether big or small facility, Keshi's "mixture" will mare them. Up Super Eagles. It is going to be 3 goals to nothing. I mean Nigeria 3 - 0 Rwanda.

theeagle: 2012-02-23 21:11

Rwanda is ranked 108 in the world ahead of Sudan and E/Guinea. and we all saw how determined and okay both countries were at the nations cup (2012)Now Rwanda is better than these two countries. Every country are improving and learning very fast that winning football could be assisted by (external factors)crazy fans, referee, location and weather. Rwanda also are dreaming of next year nation's cup in South Africa so they will be up for the match. I took time to watch the videos of Rwandan's under 17 team at the world cup (2011)and they were not that bad.
Nigeria is now ranked 56 in the world and our position even in African football is not good enough. I am happy that Coauch Keshi has promised not to take any team lightly because if we do, it will be the biggest mistake. The journey to next year nations cup and 2014 world cup have started. Everyone can contribute by monitoring Nigerian players from now on from different leagues in the world and then suggesting them on this platform, if they have quality and good enough. let us wade off emotions and tribalism and be more realistic.
Super Eagles can conquer the world at senior level again. If we can find the best players that have talent, quality and passion to represent Nigeria. It is time to play our part rather than criticise all the time.
