Togo stun Nigeria to win WAFU

Togo stun Nigeria to win WAFU

Posted: 14 May 2011 Time: 8:43 pm

Atakora Lalawele claimed two goals and one assist as Togo stunned hosts Nigeria 3-2 to win the second edition of the WAFU Cup tournament in Abeokuta.

Lalawele opened the scoring with a header inside 2 minutes, then set up Wome Senome for a simple tap-in on 20 minutes with the Nigeria defence stranded high up the pitch.

Ikechukwu Ibenegbu reduced the arrears five minutes later before adding to his tally from the spot when Ehiosu was sandwiched by two defenders. He scored his second from a penalty on 45 minutes.

But a goalkeeping error from Sunday Rotimi allowed Lalawele to claim his second of the evening from a free kick, and the Hawks held on in front of a stunned crowd.

Both teams finished with 10 men when defenders Gege Soriola and Duro-Akoriko were dismissed in either half.   Defeat ended Samson Siasia's run of five consecutive wins, and also denied him his first trophy as Super Eagles coach.

The Togolese deserved to win. Lets not forget that these Eagles had little or no preparation for the torney. This loss takes nothing from the good work Siasia is doing. SIASIA REMAINS MY HERO!

@Detmoder, you are an empty barrel that is making senseless noise! Nigerians are a lot smarter than you South Africans. Siasia represents the unfolding revolution of Nigerian football that will shake the world. Siasia has come to STAY and STAY he will!!

I agree with Detmolder! I think that Siasia must quit before he brings any more disgrace to Nigeria by losing in another final. Nigerians are winners not losers.

And i keep wondering where siasia picked that disaster called goal keeper from? Infact Rotimi is the WORST nigerian keeper i have ever seen. He cost us this trophy.

I think that Siasia is not the right coach to lead our glorious Super Eagles, how could a superior Nigeria lose to a backward nation like Togo? The answer is simple...our coach is useless! He should therefore resign with immediate effect.

I have never rated this Siasia. He is overrated and only good for coaching youth. I demand that he resigns now before he brings more disgrace to Nigeria's tarnished football image thanks to Amos Amadu.

@Edwi Itodo, you are so stupid. Because he lost a match and you label siasia as useless and that he should resign. How many times have you failed in your life even if it is something as a simple test or exam in school. I'm sure you failed many times and i am sure you did not see yourself as stupid and useless and resign. I hope you told Mourinho to resign for loosing to barcelona by 5 goals and i hope you also told wenger to resign for loosing to Man U. People like you make me so sick at your analysis and judgements.

I am shattered by this loss. It is clear that Samson Siasia is not up to the task of leading the Super Eagles, all he is good for is coaching our youth teams. He should resign immediately. I refuse to accept coming second.

Couldn't watch the match cos i traveled to my home town. However i heard dat Rotimi blew his chances of becoming our number three gk.
Edwin Itodo and ben are either not nigerians or are simply not knowledgeable about the game. our league have been on break for two months now and dey only trained for 2days b4 d tournament. pls guys lets not heap unnecessary pressure on siasia. GOD BLESS NIGERIA.
