Obama Cup: No opponents for Eagles

Super Eagles left in the cold at Obama Cup

Posted: 26 February 2011 Time: 3:50 pm

The Super Eagles have been left with no opponents to play against after arriving in Dallas, Texas for the Green Soccer Bowl tournament.

Organisers were desperately trying to postpone the tournament till March 13, but it is doubtful if the competition will now take place.

Mexico, which were to send their Under 20 team, have cancelled their participation, claiming that tournament organisers did not meet agreed terms and conditions.

Panama have also withdrawn with reports on the Panama FA website saying organisers informed them that the tournament had been postponed due to inability to print tickets on time.

On Friday, organisers and NFF officials were desperately trying to secure friendly scrimmages for Samson Siasia's team with amateur sides and semi professional clubs in Dallas.

No problem, atleast some of the players now have the experience of travelling outside Nigeria. The NFF should try and organise some friendly matches with some of the African countries that participated in the just concluded CHAN tournament. It would not be out of place if these guys can be made to play a friendly match once a month with their neighbouring african countries.

Thanks @Eric for your comment. I think what NFF has to do at the moment is to start engaging the FA of Tunisia, Angola and other teams that excelled in the CHAN tournament in talks to see the possibility of organizing friendly matches with the home-based Eagles. The effort in training in past weeks must now just waste away. Also, I will implore us not to lambaste the NFF for the sake of it alone but to see reason with them. For the US embassy to have issued visas for a tournament that did not eventually hold, that shows how well the organizers have been smart with their deceit. I only wish they can get credible friendly matches to reflect the effort the FF members seem to be putting.

@eric, Im heavily disappointed with d 1st 3 lines of ur comment.thta wz a big embarrassment.whoever wz behind the tournament shld be sued.my SA friend whos been following the whole episode said we r been paid back in our coins and it is nt even april 1st yet.imagine england, france or holland arriving at a tournament only to be told it wasnt holding after all or being asked to play an under 20 team or amateur and semi pro teams,nt even some crap teams in MLS.ppl u need to walk up,and what kind of experience wld they have gotten from flying long hrs to and fro.heartland cant play their match with enugu rangers cos most of their players r involved with either siasia or with obuh.everybody involved in this must be hanged.i.ll cast the first stone if need be.

For John Obuh's U-20, he needs to test and beef up the squad with these foreign based players. It should be noted that that these players are super regualrs.

In his book: A bend in the River, V S Naipaul tells us that Africa never ceases to amaze. NFF never ceases to amaze. I am dumb-struck.

@raymond stop parading those players...if they are good they should be playing for clubs in western europe..some of the players in the lower league i.e elliot omosuzi, aliyu are not even playing regularly...i think some players in nigerian league are better...just because you are playing in europe does not make you a better player...

When the dust has settled, our incompetent NFF and their agents shld contact the best 4 teams in just concluded CHAN and even our perennial foes ghana and cameroun.eagles shld conquer africa first b4 attending dubious tournaments.i cant imagine some idiot asking the team to play under 20 team of mexico or even amateur or semi pro teams not even some crap ones in the MLS.

@kunad,WITH DUE RESPECT guy wht part of ma comment didnt u understand? I said TEST dem...if not good enuff 4 sure dey can always b dropped...U 4 just lock up if u dont concor...Again, playn in western Europe doesnt in anyway mean u re better than any1 elsewhere, it’s just abt opportunity, luck n better agents/managers. Google any of those names or better still, check dem out on youtube n tell me if dey hv nothin 2 offer...How many clubs in this ur "WESTERN EUROPE" did Rasheed Yekini play 4?...It remains such school of thought of urs dat kept Aiyegbeni Yakubu in SE 4 so long wen there was neva a time d young man was actually GOOD but kept making SE list bcos of western europe ideology...Wen last did u check out elliot omozusi n Elford Alliyu? well i watchd their clubs dis afternoon n dey both playd gud football...And again, invitin dem doesnt mean NOT INVITING HOME BASED PLAYERS....They are all Nigerians so stop d PULL HIM DOWN syndrome dat has so made our once Great soccer country now backward...
Anthony annah maintained a regular shirt wit black stars of Ghana while playin for Rosemborg of Norway. He now plays in Schalke 04. George Abbey maintaind right back position of SE 4 a while, while playn 4 a 3 division team in England. If we want a player 2 bi a regular with AC Milan,Juventus or Real Madrid b4 getting SE invitation, we must b dreaming...OK...Let dem invite Abayomi Delfouneso of Aston villa if he will answer us...Spot players with potentials while dey are growin...dats d way its done bcos if dey becom well known starz b4 u consider dem, dey might not tak u serious---...Patriotism isnt abt takin part in ma success, it also involves assistin me grow 2 my full potentialities...Look @ GHANA, all dey need 2 invite a player is dat d player is just interested in playin 4 dem, FINISH...whether ghanian born or not, its not their business...as a result, they now hav a very large and impressive pool of young ambitious soccer players, while we are waiting 4 them 2 be regulars with IVY LEAGUE teams in "ONLY western europe"...Look lets speak d truth guyz, GHANA DO GO leave us! .They hav a system here in Europe that scouts and immediately converts players of Ghanian affiliation 2 theirs..I said affiliation bcos dey arent as tribalistic as us so just a little interest in Ghana, not really tru parentage gets dem interested in you...4 instant, (imaginary) if gareth bale says he is playin 4 Ghana 2morow, he gets an invitatn 2morow evenin n rectify wit FIFA later...but if its our DEAR naija...we will 1st ask " (1) u are frm wht geo political zone? Do u hv anybody in Abuja 2 front 4 u? etc...Right now as I speak Ghana is workin on multiple swaps frm europe 2 Ghana...dey just convincd Charles Takyi st pauli 2 play 4 dem,Emmanuel frinpong of Arsernal wants 2 play 4 dem,dey are monitoring Drobo-Amepem of Esbjerg, talkin 2 danny welbeck of sunderland 2 play 4 dem...We need 2 start givin our ppl a sense of belonging 4 dem 2 even recognise that naija belongs 2 all of us not just d rich or those wit ppl in Abj. We by far hav more foreign born that any other African country (our boyz are seriously spreadin d LOVE in Europe) but hw has it benefitted naija as a country?

@ no be una fault:

Can you imagine? I made a grave mistake by not travelling for this 419 tournament. Had I gone, I would have had the opportunity of suing the company in charge of the tournament and make some good dollars.

Chineke me.... I don miss at least $100,000 for pain and suffering. Only in America can you have this kind of justice.

I go set another trap for them.
