Cosafa Metropolitan U-20 Championships moves to Botswana

Posted: 15 October 2010 Time: 12:22

The traditional year-ending COSAFA Metropolitan Under-20 Championships will this year be held in Gaborone, Botswana, making a switch away from South Africa where the tournament has been held for the past decade.

According to the organisers, the tournament will this year run from December 3-12 with all of the countries from the region expected to send teams.

The draw for the competition will also take place in Gaborone next week, Thursday, October 21.

The championships will also provide a chance for the Khabo Zondo coached Amajita – the South African Under-20 team – a chance to redeem themselves after being bundled out of the African Youth Championships qualifiers by minnows Lesotho.

Last year Amajita, under the tutelage of Maqsood ‘Macky’ Chenia reached the Final of the annual competition but lost 1-0 to Zambia in the final that was played at Dobsonville Stadium.

A host of players have come through the regional with the most recent being Kaizer Chiefs star Knowledge Musona and Ramahlwe Mphahlele of Moroka Swallows.
