Sundowns show Katongo the door

Posted: 6 August 2010 Time: 10:32

KickOff.com can confirm that Felix Katongo has been released by Mamelodi Sundowns after only a season at the club.

The Zambian international started only two matches in the League and came off the bench seven times.

Subsequently, Katongo, the younger brother of former Jomo Cosmos striker Christopher, has been deemed surplus to requirements by the Tshwane club. However, he didn’t have to wait long to find a new club.

The 26-year-old has moved to Libya, where he has penned a two-year deal with Al Ittihad. News from his native country claims the deal is worth a staggering US$500,000 (R3 600 000) over the course of the two years. Al Ittihad is the Libyan club that became the first club from that country to qualify for the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League in 2007.

Katongo had been in Libya for two weeks before signing the deal. "I signed the contract on Sunday and I can officially confirm that I have joined Al Itihad," he tells Zambianfootball.net.

"It is a good move and I love it. I want to work hard so that I can fit in their League. The kind of football played here (Libya) is different and more competitive, so I will try to work hard to adapt to their style of play," he said.

Am not a Sundowns supporter but I never understood why this guy was signed in the first place. Or was it a mis-identification? They thought he was his brother Chris? Anyway, he wanted to leave long time ago. Their management should stop this tendency of signing the players they don't need.

Ja I guess the president came into his senses. No more unnecesary signings,we are offloading players who are surplus to requirements. And above all this we dont need interference with the coach.I hope Trott & Tedd must revist their job descriptions...that is advisor to the office of the president(Trott) & technical advisor(youth development)(Tedd).

Where is Mabhuti Khanyasa?

If you don't have a development structure or
your seeking an
attention from ANC
leaders will end up paying R10m for cows
like Khanyesa.
What is his current price tag.
R250 000? hahahahaha
