Nesta : 2010-07-21 17:05

Yakubu?do u expect hm 2 b back with that mis of the century

Tony: 2010-07-21 17:08

This is goodnews as long as yakubu, yobo, obasi,N-Kalu who refused to retire voluntarily and the rest is not among.Lets give martins another chance but any excuse again of not having enough time to play , he will follow them as well. However, i regret the absent of S-Kaita, he is a good player despite the mistake he did during the WC.Hope he is forgiven. Tony, Abidjan-Cote I'voire.I wish this new SE all the best.God bless Nija football.

Eric: 2010-07-21 17:10

I think that is a new begining. In the process of time some players will still be dropped while new ones will come onboard.
Where is Anichebe? Is he still nursing injury? What of Eneramo?

kingsley: 2010-07-21 17:10

i was expecting victor anichebe in the squard. nevertheless who is the coach of the SE? were the players invited to be coached by Mr president? always going for fire brigade approach in all things. Board members off to Germany for u-20 w/c another jamboree as SA 2010. no body to take decision. This is another smoke screen.

moserity: 2010-07-21 17:11

Kubukubu, where are thou? Where are my very good old friends in Kanu and Yobo? I thought you will never have enough of the Super Eagles.

Eric: 2010-07-21 17:13

@Tony, Obasi would have been there but for injury. He did his best during the nations cup.

Eric: 2010-07-21 17:16

where is Taye Taiwo?

Hrvoje: 2010-07-21 17:18

Obasi is injury and he should be in the team when he is fit.John Chibuike from FC Hacken in Sweden is very intresting player. We cant forget Victor Moses,Angelo Obinna,Stephen Sunday and Chinedum Onuoha, all them can play for Super Eagles.

Agbe: 2010-07-21 17:20

Am happy as long as we don`t invite Yakubu, Yobo, Ayinla, Utaka,Afolabi and the Great KANU, we thank the great man(KANU) for all he as done for his beloved country, he should now concentrate on being a manager or an administrator in the FA, thank you Papilo but no thanks to Yobo and Yakubu.

I think something is wrong with those incharge of Nigerian Team. I can't believe my eyes that Nigeria still has the gut to recall some of the "SO SLUGISH,UNPATRIOTIC AND NOISEMAKERS" called the super eagle apart from the goalkeeper "VINCENT ENYEAMA" who deservedly to be the CAPTAIN OF THE NEXT SUPER EAGLES GENERATION.

We are so dull in Nigeria that we forget things easily and thereby not learning from our mistake. These NFF have started their stupidity again! Where are the players from the U17,U20 and the Olympic team? Are we waiting for them to clock 35yrs before we started calling them to super eagle, despite the fact that we all know that they are all overaged in their respective age rank they claimed to be?

What kind of idiots are running our football for goodness sake? so we have forgotten those boys now and we are still depending on those slow poison(Etuhu&Echiejile) the unpatriotic(Martins & Mikel) and that selfish basketmouth(Osaze) who criticises every coach when things are not going in his favour. I weep for Nigeria.

Where is Anichebe and others including the U17,20 and 2008 Olympic team who can be blended with the Energetic, talented and Hungry for glory homebase players. There are other players out there who have never been capped or watched in their respective clubs who are by far better than the remains of the rated "number 4" flops of the world cup by Fifa " The Sluggish Eagles of Nigeria"

Good new names to start with,i think more names will appear as time goes. However it seems that our U-20 female team has qualified for quarter final after playing 1-1 draw with mexico. I think kickoff and colin will report about the just finished match next tomorrow.

Mobis-soccer: 2010-07-21 17:30

@ mayor,Its a gradual process. We are restructuring. I mean building process. Every body cannot be invited. More players will come and some will go. Its a continual something until a standard team is raised.

Segun: 2010-07-21 17:35

I am not so comfortable with this kind of arrangement. Who invited these players? It is the responsibility of the coach to map out his strategy and then invite players that can help him actualize his plans. The FA cannot continue inviting players for the national team coaches unless the FA is saying that the coaches at the helm of affairs are incompetent.
It is high time we decide whether we are keeping Lars or not. To the best of my knowledge, all his entitlements have been paid and his contract ends this month. If his contract is not going to be extended, we are free to hand over the team to a new coach. Italy and France appointed new coaches even before the start of the world cup.
We must learn to do things right. There is no reason why the chieftains of the FA must be in Germany now that a lot of restructuring work ought to be carried out on our team. I hope that if a new coach is appointed before the friendly, he will weed out those players that do not fit his plans in this list and extend invitation to those that can actually help him actualize his plans.
Except a change of attitude by Osaze, I think he should be left out for now else he will always breed bad blood in the team. Our players must learn to add attitude and character to their talent.

Sarah: 2010-07-21 17:35

I am very happy because YAKUBU is not there....others player are 100percent OK But why not invite ANICHEBE and ENERAMO and i hope OBASI could be included but because of his enjury

Kolawole1: 2010-07-21 17:42

I thought King Osanga is now playing in Tunisia with Etoile du Sahel? Why is he still listed as a Heartland FC player?

Freeman: 2010-07-21 17:43

D ickson E tuhu and Danny *****tu shouldn't be on that list!

where is Chibuzor Okonkwo the battler?
Where are the core of the silver winning u-17 boys if you want midfielders and defenders, then try this boys.

Nigerian League Players are good but it takes a good coach to give them the best position for them to flourish!

For the love of the game!

Good squad selection, me think. Perhaps, Surely Obasi is injured as he was 1 of the better performers in SA, but why is Anichebe left out?
The question is who is responsible for this list? Technical comt or Eguavoen? Who will be in charge of the team in Aug/Sept?.

Falconents have qualified for qtr finals as the runnners up in Grp C waiting for the winner of Grp D (SK?). In my opinion, a lot of work needs to be done to pass thru to the semis especially in the middle of the pack.
failure is an orphan, many now identify with falconents, but had it been the other way round, many Nigerians will shout crucify the team, the coach & NFF!!! No comparism now with Ghana bcos the latter is not moving ahead in the U20 women tourney, otherwise, many forumites who have suggested/insinuated a lot of unjustified pessimisms.

Niceguy: 2010-07-21 17:43

Good start, I think Kaita should be in the team despite his mistake in the world cup.Where are the likes of Taye Taiwo, Victor Anichebe, Onyekachi Apam, Michael Eneramo, Obiora N****wo, kingsly Udoh, Rabiu Ibrahim, Stanly Okoro, Furtune Chukwudi, Roman Aziz Etc. These are the future Super Eagles, we should emulate from Ghana to give our youth players chance.

Austin: 2010-07-21 17:47

Osaze has potentials but he talks more than he plays. I still my doubts about the quality of the home based guys because of what I see in the league. the same players that went and lost 0-4 in Zambia?! Wahala dey! If we do not restructure our leagues I am afraid that we may not have quality materials to replace the aging SE players like Kanu. And most of the players on this list are nothing less than 26 - 27 years old. We cannot rely on them to build a new SE. We must go to the grass roots. The U-17 boys should be the ones playing because most of them are likely to be 21-23 years.

Sarah: 2010-07-21 17:49

I have rethink myself now ,Please we made a mistake to call this slow two players ETUHU and Echiejile,I prefer KAITA than ETUHU..

Kolawole1: 2010-07-21 17:53

Not a bad list. The absence of a substantive manager makes it undeserving of much comment. i am sure the bulk of success in repositioning super eagles will depend on the mentality and approach of the eventual team manager. I however don't like the inclusion talentless Dickson Etuhu and the off form, garrulous Odemwingie. It might be because South korea insisted on having half the world cup team for the friendly game....

Besides, Why do we have to play South Korea again having played them at the world cup? THis NFF always look for either Grade C or less expensive matches so that they will be able to steal more money in the process.

Although, I stand to be corrected and enlightened, but I think it is the respensibility of the coach/manager to pick and select players that will help him prosecute a match and NOT the FA/NFF or whatever they called themselves. But in Nigeria, is like we are only paying our coaches for nothing since the NFF(THE RUBBISH HOUSE) have hijack the duties from the coaches and turn them to SIDON DEY LOOK. what a country!

No more jamboree in NFA, Maigari
SportsJul 19, 2010

By Fidelis Ebu, Abuja
NFA acting president, Alhaji Aminu Maigari yesterday took a bold step when he insisted that it was all over for the era of profligacy, misapplication of fund and unnecessary estacode chasing by the staff and Executive Committee members of the federation.

Lulu
Maigari in a chat at the NFA secretariat insisted that, “definitely it’s bye, bye to the era of jamboree.
“Yes, a lot of people expect me to be in Germany for the FIFA Under_20 Women World Cup but here I am working for the development of Nigerian football. In fact, some people could not believe their eyes when they saw me in the office today (yesterday).
“Nigerians don’t take NFA serious because they see us as estacode chasing people. That’s why the whole world wants to be in the NFA and we must stop the trend. It has to start from somewhere.
“Infact, I stopped some of my key staff from going. Apart from the technical staff who are necessary others have been told that it’s no longer business as usual”, Alhaji Aminu Maigari said yesterday

The Nigeria FA set for decision on coach Lars Lagerback

By Oluwashina Okeleji
BBC Sport, Lagos

Lagerback was in charge of Nigeria at the World Cup in South Africa
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has held off making a decision on the future of coach Lars Lagerback following the team's humiliating first-round exit at the 2010 World Cup.
Although Nigeria failed to win any match in South Africa at the 2010 World Cup under Lagerback, the NFF still offered the Swede a new four-year contract.
And the 62-year-old refused to commit himself to the new extension saying he needed to consult with his family in Sweden.
Amid widespread speculation that Lagerback would not be retained following a change of leadership in the football house, NFF spokesman Ademola Olajire said a decision about the coach's future should "not be made in haste".
Olajire said they had given Lagerback time "to make his own decision regarding his future".
Following a public and media outcry over the delay in choosing a manager, a final board meeting will convene next week in the capital Abuja to discuss their options.
"We understand the yearning of the public concerning the Super Eagles and a decision will be reached next week," Olajire told BBC Sport.
"Lagerback's contract will expire at the end of this month [July] but we have Nations Cup qualifier in Septembers which necessitates serious planning.
"We have not heard from him about the future but we have to move swiftly to the next phase."
Despite retaining assistant coach Austin Eguavoen for the international friendly against South Korea on August 11, there are strong indications that former international Samson Siasia will be the new man in charge of the Super Eagles.
With the new Heartland FC coach refusing to comment on his link to the Nigeria post, NFF's Olajire admits that a very crucial decision will be taken at the meeting.
"A lot has happened between the World Cup and now but the country fans and media will have something good to talk about pretty soon," Olajire said.
But he admitted: "As much as we work hard for the progress of the country, we will hopefully do everything, in the interest of the country as everyone feel humiliated with the World Cup performance.

@ Segun, which NFF chieftains are in Germany? Where did u get ur report? Pls read Maigari's interview in Ifeoluwa posts above. Only few guys from the technical dept /psychologist(Emma Ikpeme)(not executive)are in Germany.
@ Mayor, a) the current U17/ U20 players are busy preparing for the next qualifier game against Guinea this wkend. Do you want to distract the young guys with a burden of SE invitation at this time?
b) Pls check the list, it contains 50% of the U20 05/ 0lympic 08 team. Both with the home based & pros (John Owoeri, John Obi Mikel, Nsofor, Osaz, Adeleye). From the last U20 team, you have likes of Haruna Luqman, Gbolahan Salami, King Osanga etc. So, what do you guys want again? Ah ba Naija, u can never be satisfied!!!
@ Austin, i concur with you man. I watched about 50 mnts of the Heartland vs Ahly match, wasnt really impressed with the stuff on display by Heartland, imagine the penalty conceded, the defender Emmanuel Olowo (the capt) raised his leg like a butcher!!! Really surprised that Ibenegu (hardworking middleman of heartland)is not on this list.

Billion: 2010-07-21 21:05

The stadiums I understand are very scanty, the TV stations rarely air these matches and National FA's and FIFA pay less attention to it. Women participation in soccer and boxing should be discontinued especially in Africa. The physiological and anatomical exposures of this lady-mothers should form excellent moral grounds to ban and forbid women playing competitive soccer. Let's all detest it!

Clovis: 2010-07-21 21:07

Alright this is the first list. Let's see what comes of this before jumping down their throat. Good suggestion will be to include some of our U-17 and U-20 players from previous two years ago.

All-in-all, a good start in the right direction.

Exclusive: John Obuh leads Eagles vs Korea

Nigeria's Obafemi Martins
July 21, 2010

Nigeria Under-20 team coach, John Obuh, has been picked to lead the country for a full international friendly against Korea next month, MTNFootball.com has exclusively learnt.

MTFootball.com has been informed that the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under the new leadership of former international forward Dominic Iorfa have proposed Obuh to be in charge of the Super Eagles for a friendly against South Korea on August 11.

“Obuh is the only national team coach on the ground now and that is why he was chosen for the friendly game,” a top member of the technical committee informed MTNFootball.com.

It is also believed that the technical committee will make serious contributions as regards the players to be invited for Nigeria’s first match since the 2010 World Cup debacle.

Hosts Korea have already requested that the Eagles line up several of their top stars like Obafemi Martins and Yakubu Aiyegbeni for a rematch of last month’s World Cup encounter, which ended in a 2-2 draw in Durban.

However, Obuh refused to comment on this proposal, insisting his focus is on this weekend’s African Youth Championship qualifier against Guinea in Abuja.

The former Kwara United coach made his mark when within four months he moulded a team that came within a game of winning the 2009 FIFA Under-17 World Cup in November. His great work was rewarded with a promotion to handle the country’s under-20 team, the Flying Eagles.

Sodje Greece move called off

Nigeria defender Sam Sodje
July 21, 2010

Nigerian defender Sam Sodje’s transfer to Greek club Xanthi has been called off after it was discovered that he has a serious knee problem.

A top source at Xanthi told only MTNFootball.com that Sodje failed a medical at the club on arrival in Greece.

Sodje, 31, was to have signed a year’s deal at Xanthi with an option for another year, but a medical showed he has a major knee problem which only allows him to train twice a week.

Sodje has begged Xanthi not to reveal the real reason for his contract cancellation and so the official position is that the defender was released from the contract because he has to return to England so to be by his wife, who has a serious health problem.

“The Sodje deal is off. He was in Greece for three days and really loved what he saw, but unfortunately the medical showed he has a very serious problem with his knee. He’s now back in England,” a top source informed MTNFootball.com

Meanwhile, another defender, Abraham Alechenu, has boosted the growing presence of Nigerian players in Greece following his switch to Iraklis from Tirana of Albania.

Left-sided defender Alechenu, 24, has signed a year’s deal with an option for an additional year because Iraklis are in a financial mess and are widely tipped to be relegated from the Greek Super League at the end of the new season.

its a shame we are still thinking backwards, changing the team is simply short term procedure,i was expecting a report on development strategy,we are talking about rebuilding our football but i think this is just shuffling and changing for new players, has any1 been on the english fa website or take a look at just each county fa website,u can see the designs, ideas and vision for the football development, everyone is involved and no sidebacks,if changing the super eagles is just what ppl really want i guess we are all blind to see the truth and the future, our football and country will go down forever with nothing to show for it except cheating with age graded tours,we have ppl with no creativity, ppl who av no idea of football programs, how many of these ppl really went 2 uni or studied anything 2 do with sports, every time we have a change at the top but nothing is done about football development, the only development they know is changing the players and so many ppl on here gets carried away so often by just the lil changes,i expect more from us (fans),from the players, media, the fa,we need to really build our football,we need to have local leagues, county leagues, academy leagues most esp we need ourselves,we need to worry more about the future and am really worried,i dont know what u guys think

I am not trying to insult people but just saying the obvious. Many people here have very low IQ that is why I comment once in a while. Today you shout for local players, 2moro when they loose you clamour for foreign players. To be honest what we need is not this stupid fire brigade approach of calling useless home based players for jamboree. It is clear our local players are not good enough. Enyimba loosing 4-0 Heartland drawing at home and same home based players lost to ordinary Niger republic. What an insult!

What should have been done is pick not more than 4-6 local players. Best of the best add foreign players who are young and missed out of the world cup, mix some untested foreign Nigerians with at least 12 of those who went to the world cup because to be honest at least as at the time of the world cup at least 18 of those players deserved to be at the world cup. To change a team can take just 2-3 players and they will become a better team. It does not have to be total overhaul. Barca lost the league some seasons ago, what did they do? They brought in just 2-3 players the same team and started introducing youngsters that understands the coach pysche into the team to become the best team in Europe now. The merely sold Ronaldinho and 2 more players brought in Alves, Pique, Kaita and Toure and the following season, they won everything.

In conclusion, adding just Anichebe, Ike Uche, Mikel, Apam, Onuoha, Angelo Ogbonna, Peter Utaka and Victor Moses with 5 local players like Suswan, Ahmed Musa, King Osanga etc should be enough for starters. Simply let go off players that won't be in the next world cup and retain the younger guys that can make it to next world cup from present team. That is how you build a team. You then gradually add new discovery in every new game to fight for shirt. That is what Westerhof did. He kep on introducing new players like Finidi, Amokachi, Okocha, Amuneke gradually into the team.

@Jebsy, rather than attack me, why not attack the issues in my comment. Female boxing, weightlifting and soccer is a sore point in African sports. These sports are not part of women cultural/societal evolution in Africa. It debases womanhood! Our mothers never took part in it. My wife will not neither will my daughter be encouraged to be part of it. Leave the men to do these sports and the women their God-given roles!!

Another stupid decision. This is a hasty decision that will backfire. The truth is that NFF can never be honest. When you look at the squared that they quickly assembled, you will notice that Nigeria future will be going backward. What happened to our u17 team that finished second in Nigeria? What happened to u21 players? What happened to u23 players? Why just players that are not even doing fine in Nigeria clubs?Whoever that assemble these squared should go to jail. Why do we just assembled local players that will never be used when it matters? Why use players for training, when you can pick few that can be involved?I am just not sure, why is most people in this forum happy about the squared. where is okoro,Rabiue,n****wo in inter millan,Aziz, Chukwudi and some people that can make our country proud in 3 years?

GOOD NEWS for local based players in Nigeria; but again i believe that the Nigerian league need to be proffessional in order to be taken serious in African domestic soccer; Let them swallow their pride and learn from other successful and proffessional leagues in Africa like Egyptian league; Tunisian League;Algerian League and most importantly RSA Premier league (one of the Top TEN Leagues in the World in terms of Revenue;Sponsoship and Marketing/Media coverage); State intervention and ownership of Clubs should be scrapped, the league should be run like a Company or Private Business with stakeholders. Nigeria has potential to succeed and do better. Good luck anyway.

Osanga has since moved to the Tunisian league - Etoile Sportive du Sahel - to be precise. Please update your records.

The paramount king: 2010-07-22 11:11

Hey who wrote this squad is it Siasia or who but i don't think that this person is sound when he was writing this squad.why should be Taiwo and Yakubu be missing in this team or because taiwo is in negociation to change club or what and why did he omitted yakubu my only brother and fan in the super eagles.
You included osaze that plays nothing but a rebel in the team.
Yes i want to tell you something that you fail to understand,we have good playeers outside there if you want to axed the gone world cup playres out because you have to let martins go and bring Eneramo and anichebe or have you forgotten anichebe so soon.

Alos why is dickson etuhu and danny ****tu doing in that team again and is it because sani kaita received a marching order that made you to remove him in the team or am i making mistakes look sani kaita and ayila is the best defensive midfielder in nigeria as of now.

You packed the bunch of limited players in the domestic league that cannot even beat niger to qualify for chan and you said that they are going to play the nations cup for which country shame onto you.
Reconstruct the Super Eagles and now you are planning the worst because with these bunch of limited players i bet we are going no were, drawing team you excluded APAN ONYEKACHI,SANI KAITA and the worse is including ****TU have not been playing for his club BOLTON for the past two seasons when do we wake up from our sleep our the god fatherism have started again allow the coach to invite his players,it is the the so called NFF will invite players for the coach allow the coach so that when he fails he will bear the consiquencies but you inviting the playres on camp for coach at the end when he fails he will excuses to give why.
Look do not make me angry because i wil start caussing evry body overther in the soar glass house before i instruct the oracles of my village to go out there and distroy those big for nothing big belle in the NFF.oduche, Iyioji,Oboshi ,Okpuzu, Asiama nwanyi asaba with the big boobs these are fighting oracles that protect their children from anybody that oppresses them and those that play with their happiness like these big belle in the glass house.
THE PARAMOUNT KING HAVE SPOKEN AND SO SHALL IT BE WITH THE INSPIRATION FROM THE HOLY SPIRIT.

As always I'm very pleased to see the domestic league players included in the SE team. The fact that they form the crux of the squad also means the authorities are indeed serious about making a change. My hope is that the players are able to take the stage when called up and not crumble when the music starts. Groeten.

Anchiebe probably could not go anyway; Everton would want him to get ready for the season considering he was hurt a whole year and needs to spend time with the first team, not go to a glorified practice. He may be in Asia training now ironically.

It is a pity that Lars finally dumped Nigeria. What a shame. He has fulfilled his mission riding on the Back of Nigeria. Got the money and got the world cup experience.

I really pity Siasia. Its good he is being given a 4yr contract but i really doubt if he will last that long giving the NFF i know. My advice for siasia is to dine with the NFF with a long spoon. May God help siasia and Nigeria.

Hi Ken gaddaffi,
welcome back from ur self imposed break. Where did u get ur news about Lars?
Kindly offer suggestions on way forward since you are sounding pessimistic about NFF/Siasia choice. To bring back Amodu or what is the fuss about this NFF again after the whole debacle? Or better still, elections into the board is just around the corner, you can return to Nig promptly to contest and participate rather than sit -don -look attitude, always waiting or predicting doom for the system.

ken gadaffi: 2010-07-23 15:24

@the word, i dont see where u have disagreed with me.
I am really happy for Siasia to have gotten the nod at last. It is good that the NFF has now listened to the voice of the people. However i still maintain that if the NFF does not get their acts together, siaone may just go the way the others before him had gone.
What am I talking here, the Nigerian fans must be patient with him but that does not mean we cannot criticize the team when they fail. The media has a role too to play in this rebuilding process by ensuring the remain positive in their reports.

I have a feeling that they have done this to calm the nerves of the fans. They wanna use siaone as a tool to entrench themselves into the NFF and then dump him when things get going. lets just wait and see.

@objective bibby, i guess u are the bibby of old. I never went on self imposed break. When KON had little or nothing to comment about, most of us surely have to step aside.

I am not being pessimistic, there you go again when people like us call for caution, you say we are not being optimistic. This was how most of you all went with Lars and today, he has dumped Nigeria after carting away with 1.5m and giving us only 1 point at the world cup.

I have said it in my earlier post that i am happy with Siasia's appointment, however a note of caution is that we should not go to sleep and think all is well, Siasia must be given the desired support by all and sundry and then most importantly, we must also be put through the test of time if his tactics and techniques fail to give the desired results(sacking him prematurely is not the option)

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH

Obasi shld have been included. I like him, he is an aggressive attacker with a good contribution upfront. Also, sani kaita is good defensive midfielder though he fumbled in dat ungentle man action he wld have still been invited. The question is, who is the coach?
