Wits loan Calvin Kadi to Portuguese club

Bidvest Wits have loaned out there star striker Calvin Kadi to a Portuguese club.

The Nedbank Cup champions, Wits, have confirmed the departure of Kadi – their top goal scorer last season.

'Dolezar', who finished the season with eleven goals, will join Portugal side Portimonense SC on a one-year loan deal which includes an option for them to buy him.

Portimonense finished in second place in Portugal's first division last season and were subsequently promoted to the top-flight. Notable former players of the club include Brazilian defender Edmilson, Portuguese leftback Nuno Valente and legendary Mozambican striker Chiquinho Conde.

The 22-year-old joined the Clever Boys two seasons ago from SuperSport United and following good goal-scoring form initially, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs were touted as suitors. However, possible transfer deals failed to materialise and the player remained at the club until the end of the 2009/10 season.

Wits' general manager, George Mogotsi confirmed that Kadi's move was a done deal and all the parties were happy with the deal.

"He is definitely leaving and he will jet out of the country on Friday or Monday next week. He is happy with this new challenge and as a club we are happy for him."

Gr8 news indeed. This is your chance to shine and prove yurself baba. Few players gets chances like this one. A year's trial period.

I'm just wondering why is everyone getting offers but not our BB players??? Hmmmm

I think this was a 'Clever' move by the clever boys and Kadi's management team.I mean South African player from PSL are more expensive than players from other countries in the continent, mainly because PSL players earning is almost on par with most european leagues excluding the big four's.

If Teko was a Ghananian,he would have overseas longtime ago, because they would have bought him very cheap, but now for a team in smaller europiean league to pay US$1,5 million for a player that has not been tested in europe is a risk.

That is why I comend Wits for going the loan route, and this will give the player the chance to prove himself and also the club to look at him at close face and hopefully mae the right decision after a season.More clubs should follow this example, when selling players overseas. We need more players overseas if we want a stronger National Team.

An excellent move by all accounts. Portugal has produced Championship winning teams ( Porto for one ) and has some of the best players from esteemed national teams. A national team player in the making. Smart move by everyone involved. Go represent Kadi!

It is so amazing that the players who are not marketed by Kickoff alwayas go overseas where else those that are marketed by kickoff don't even go anywhere.Simphiwe Tshabalala will remain in the PSL until his contract finish.Katlego Mphela also he will remain in the colours of Sundowns whether Kickoff try to market him.You don't have to bark to achieve great things but you have to strive to achieve.Bad luck to Tshabalala and Mphela.A lesson to kickoff.
