Lionel Messi salutes 'phenomenal' Vincent Enyeama

Posted: 14 June 2010 Time: 12:37 pm

Lionel Messi described Vincent Enyeama as "phenomenal" after the Nigeria goalkeeper produced what he described as his 'best performance' to keep the Argentine forward at bay on numerous occasions in their Group B game on Saturday.

"The goalkeeper was phenomenal," Messi said after he and his Argentina mates were limited to a 1-0 win mostly thanks to Enyeama's series of stunning saves.

"He takes all the credit. We played a great game today and created a lot of chances. We just couldn't get the second goal."

Enyeama, who has enjoyed some sparkling performances for Nigeria in the past, described it as his best

"It would be my best possible performance playing against the best possible player in the world, so it was my best," Enyeama told a news conference after he was named Man of the Match.

Asked how he had, the deeply religious Enyeama said: "God is my secret, just God. He made me calm and he made me quiet."

Argentina's winner came from a corner after the goalkeeper finger-tipped a goal-bound Messi chip over.

Enyeama : you played very well and BIG UP to you and you were not only representing nigeria but Africa as well.

The results were not good but wishing you all the best in your next match.

We're behind all our African countries, lets go and die on the field and make sure that this trophy remains in African soil

Has Messi any other choice? Honour has to be given to anyone that deserves it. Enyeama deserved to be honoured. Football is not mathematics. They have Messi, we have Enyeama.

Yes, period! QED! Messi Magical! Enyeama phenomenal!!!! So, it's 50/50. Arg best player on d day was a certain Magical Messi, and Nig's was a phenominal Enyeama!. It's balance.
To all the haters, if Messi was removed from Arg team and Enyeama was equally out for Nig, the result might be different of course in favour of Nig.

I think the Nigerian coach made a blunder by not putting Odemwinge in the 1st starting line-up . That player is vernemous and I believe had he been given enough chance from the 1st half , he would would have made a BIG dif.

@Gucci Man, thanks a million for your complimentary comments. I hope other south africans and my fellow Nigerians will borrow a leaf from you and understand that this world cup is not about Super eagles or the Bafana Bafana. It is all about Africa and we must all get behind all the african teams and give them our support.

@ Bibby, I have always been objective, NEVER anti-Nigeria at any point in the past. If my objectivity sounds like anti-Nigeria, it means that is the way you and or others have interpreted it. Same, I guess, goes for Ken Gadaffi and others who seems to share their views here. When we were playing to qualify for this world cup, a lot of people did not believe we will qualify. I still remember people like Ken Gadaffi, Billion, Doyin, Frank (original), Prof, Ayo, Dr Kola, Coache, sly, and so many I cannot readily remember, who always give objective comments. I always end my comments with "YES WE CAN". Why will I not enjoy the same world cup I have believed in? Amodu is NOT related to me or my family. Lars is NOT my enemy or that of my family. I am a national of both Nigeria and Sweden. I do not have anything against either Amodu or Lars. I give my views and opinion objectively. So help me God.

I saw someone in this forum say that SE missed mikel in that game. But i can remember the same person also wrote earlier that Mikel is not useful in the SE when the news of his injury relapse got to us. But what do think, Would Mikel's presence have affected the outcome of that game??? Food for thought. Some ppl in this forum called Kaita a stupid player that doesnt deserve to be in the team. But the coach said that he is the only player that has a big engine. The guy showed it in that game, made Di maria to look ordinary. Another food for thought which will be bitter to swallow is that. Osaze has lost form. take it or leave it.if i judge by his perfomance in his club and the recent friendlies. unless something magical happens, But he is experienced. All the same i wish our SE the best of luck and pray they will calm themselves once they are in front of the goal post

We were outplayed, outclassed but not outscored by Argentina... Any-day i still believe we are a bigger country than Argentina but for our lack of ambition & class we will continue to trail them till we change our mind set...Its annoying we are still talking about a match we lost when we should have buried our shame & preparing for the next match...For once Nigerians were acting like the English & our media blinded by the truth..I do hope reality will not hit us after our next match when we are confirmed to be the first team to exit the world cup...
I hear some forumites even call for the likes of Okocha while others insist the demise of Yekini has hampered our style as we have not been able to replace them..I have pondered & reviewed my little history & cant still remember if yekini & Okocha defeated Argentina any-where barring for the age grade Olympics game where we all know the reason for our victory. In fact we all lost by still one goal margin & it hit me hard that we are truly under achievers as there is no other team been taught footballing lesson like were been taught by Argentina....I did'nt see a good Argentina play us but a bad Argentina who wobbled to victor over a never say die Bad Nigerian team albeit with resilience.I forsee Argentina being trashed by Korea & defeating greece by a high goal margin to end with 6six points..while the Nigerian out come against greece & Korea might not be good enough to take us through thus representing another disastrous outing...Whatever said, many thanks to our coach Lagarback for lessening the possibility for an outright disgrace at the world cup..Well done Black stars for doing Africa proud as do hope cameroon will follow suit later today..
