Nigerian clubs progress

Heartland, Enyimba and Warri Wolves all secured progress to the next stage of CAF continental competitions over the weekend.

In the CAF Champions League, Heartland looked comfortable after a 2-2 first leg draw in Cameroon, but were five minutes away from elimination.

Joel Djondang gave the visitors a shock lead on the half hour mark, and it took a late goal from Emmanuel Omodiagbe, five minutes from time, to calm beating hearts and send the Naze Millionaires through on the away goals rule.

Like Heartland, Warri Wolves looked all but assured of progress following their 3-0 first leg home win, and with scores at 0-0 going into the break, the CAF debutants were on their way to the next round.

But after Ogaga Aniwhi was sent off on 50 minutes, the Zambians scored two goals in 17 minutes through Enoch Sakala, threatening a third to derail Wolves ambitions.

The Nigerians however, held on, and moved to the next stage of the competition.

By far, the most difficult task of the three fell on Enyimba, who needed to overturn a 0-2 deficit to join Wolves in the next round of the CAF Confederation.

Needing three goals to advance, they quickly set about their business. Junior Osagie opened scores after just two minutes, and then cancelled the deficit on 20 minutes.

The winner came late into the game. This time, it was Uche Ukpabi who secured the victory, and progress with a goal on 70 minutes.

@kolawole, leave AMODU out of this. He cannot be held responsible for the super eagles B team's failure. The blame should go to the NFF.

You guys emotions are just like a switch.. today when there is a good news, it comes on, tomorrow when the going is tough, it goes off.. you guys dont cease to amaze me..
how come at this early stage of the tourney all the club sides are moving to the next round by whisker.. why is it that none of this team progressed comfortably. is this not the same struggle to win syndrome that is seen with the Super Eagles today?

U r correct Kolawole, the problem with Naija is not lack of talent but poor organization from the NFF and lack of quality coaches locally. Why is it that The same group of players that performs well continentally year in, year out will always fumble when it comes to international assignment? Until we stop putting square pegs in round holes, the just shall never live by faith alone.

Amodu is the problem with Nigerian football, crucify him and blame him.ha ha ha. Imbeciles!!!
