Gumbi changes his name

Posted: 4 September 2009 Time: 12:12

Orlando Pirates midfielder Mlungisi ‘Professor’ Gumbi has changed his surname to Mdluli.

This was revealed in the list of Pirates players registered with PSL this season.   Another player who changed his surname in the past is former Bucs goalkeeper Thabang Stemmer who was previously known as Thabang Radebe.   Orlando Pirates communication manager Mickey Modisane tells KickOff.com that despite ‘Professor’s’ change of surname, his jersey number 6 will remain with the surname Gumbi this season.   “He will remain with the surname Gumbi on his Pirates jersey because the surname was changed after the registration was done. He will probably have his new surname on his shirt next season.”   Meanwhile striker Irvin Mhlambi’s future with Pirates remains uncertain after the club failed to register him.   According to the list of players that have been registered by their respective club that was sent to KickOff.com by the PSL, both Mhlambi and Kelebogile Mabe are not on the Bucs list of registered players.

Why do many players keep changing their surnames? Especially Pirates. Is it because of age cheating? Because when they were young they were using some elses surname to play at youth tournaments and now that they are grown up they want their old surname back?

Oh come on Mickey, is it such a mission to go thru the due process and change the jersey to Mdluli. You can imagine how much this could mean to the player from the cultiural perspective. Once a Pirate.

Hey guys, dont you forget the Mbulelo Old-John who at some stage changed his surname to Mabizela. Still at Pirates. I hear that Mr Dr Colonel Khoza advises the players to change surnames for a better luck but look at all of them. They are all on the wrong path. Yoh yoh yoh. Pirates with surnames and Pirates with player registrations. It was said we are mad when we said play the registered players now look what that does to them. They are going to start saying "If we keep on winning wothout them then it is fine." No it is not, why did you not let them go for they are still young and have a long way to go in soccer. Typical Pirates, they are not going to play this season and they will be signing contract extensions next year as if they were blind and did not see that the coach does not want them. I rest my case. Don't forget that was the legacy left by Joosta Dladla because he was Makgala before. Jabu is the product of Zimcheaps. Lekolea changed his family name before he was signed by Parates and Tafera changed his only after he had parted ways with Pirates idiot.

As a true bucanneer i just tought i should respond to the ill informed and misleading comments made by my two colleagues Thizo and Giemba regarding the name changing matter involving Mlungisi Gumbi. both these comments are ways off the mark. there is not even a single player amongst these mentioned below who belong to the Pirates academy so if they are age cheats then their respective development clubs should shoulder the blame. please colleagues let us refrain from making stupid comments simply because we do not like the club. if there is an element of age cheat from any player that we are aware of, then we have to deal with that in a manner that shall eradicate this dreadfull desease.

its so disturbing to hear some of the views about gumbi changing his surname, first it is a personal matter, two, is it not a good thing to use a correct surname for him so that if he has kids they can now where do they originate from, people just hate pirates and in the process they become ignorant and dumb, i so wish ur teams can start perfoming so this cheap talk about pirates can stop , yeses man
