A new report suggests that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag could be prepared to quit Manchester United amid an underwhelming season.

The Dutch tactician is believed to be among three candidates Ajax Amsterdam have shortlisted to fill their vacant managerial position at the end of the season, according to De Telegraaf, via the Daily Express

It is claimed the other two options laid down by the Eredivisie side are former Chelsea manager Graham Potter and Francesco Farioli who manages OGC Nice, a club also owned by new United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Potter also has links to the British billionaire, with reports having previously suggested that the former Brighton & Hove Albion boss is being considered an option to replace the Dutchman at the Manchester side.

Despite reaching the FA Cup final, where the Red Devils will face bitter rivals Manchester City after beating Coventry City on penalties in the semis, United have been criticised for their poor results and performances this season.

Following their win over Coventry, Ten Hag described the criticism of the team's display by pundits and reporters as a "disgrace".

Then, at a press conference ahead of United's EPL clash against Burnley this Saturday, the coach reportedly banned three publications  The Sun, Manchester Evening News and The Mirror  from asking questions.

Ten Hag's men are currently sixth on the league table with 53 points after losing 12 and drawing five of their 33 matches.

With question marks surrounding the 54-year-old's future at Old Trafford beyond the current campaign, it is believed Ajax are keen on bringing back their former boss, and it has now been claimed the tactician could be ready to walk away from his current post.
