One of Morocco's 2022 FIFA World Cup stars is reportedly in surprise talks to join FC Barcelona ahead of the transfer deadline.

The African nation surprised many when they reached the semi-finals of the World Cup in Qatar, with a number of their stars impressing as they showed off their talent.

Since the tournament ended, many of the Atlas Lions' players have been linked with new clubs, with Azzedine Ounahi recently joining Olympique Marseille from Angers while Hakim Ziyech is reportedly in talks with Paris Saint-Germain.

Another star being courted is Sofyan Amrabat, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, among others, in recent weeks.

According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, however, Barca are now looking to sign Amrabat before the transfer deadline early on Wednesday morning.

The Catalan giants are said to be working on a deal to sign the 26-year-old on loan from Fiorentina.

It is believed a non-mandatory purchase option will be inserted in the deal, but it remains uncertain if the Serie A side would be open to this.

Atletico Madrid were also believed to be interested in Amrabat, but the Blaugrana now appear to be the frontrunners for his services.
