Esperance coach Miguel Cardoso made a big admission about his side's 1-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday night.

Yan Sasse's lovely finish in the 41st minute was enough to hand ES Tunis a 1-0 win over Rulani Mokwena's charges.

Sundowns have now failed to score in their last three Champions League matches and Cardoso was extremely proud of his players.

"It was a high-quality match between two of the best teams on the continent," Cardoso said at the press conference, as per the club's website.

"We delivered a tactically interesting performance that adhered to the game plan we had set out beforehand. I am extremely proud of what my players have accomplished tonight."

"As expected, it came down to details where sometimes luck can play a part, but luck goes hand in hand with hard work, and that's what we demonstrated tonight."

While Esperance did walk away with the victory and a clean sheet, Cardoso admitted there was tough moments for his team.

"We did some good things, but we also suffered and had some tough moments," he admitted.

"But it is in these difficult moments that you see the character of the players and their ability to execute the game plan.

"They showed great solidarity and fighting spirit, and that's what allowed us to clinch this victory."
