Former Egypt star Mido has warned Marcel Koller against treading the same path that led Pitso Mosimane to part ways with Al Ahly.
Former Egypt star Mido has warned Marcel Koller against treading the same path that led Pitso Mosimane to part ways with Al Ahly.

A former Egypt star has suggested that Al Ahly boss Marcel Koller is following in the footsteps of South African coach Pitso Mosimane, and not in a good way.

Following the Red Devils' 2-1 derby defeat to rivals Zamalek in an Egyptian Premier League clash on Monday, former player and coach Ahmed Hossam, also known as Mido, has warned the Swiss tactician against "writing his end" the way he feels the South African coach did towards the end if his time in Cairo.

The Egyptian giants are currently ninth on the table with 21 points after 11 matches, and have won just two of their past five encounters.

They have, however, played four games less than league-leaders Pyramids FC, who have garnered 32 points thus far.

Nevertheless, Mido has raised concerns about the current state of the club.

"Al Ahly has been suffering technically in the recent period. Koller is following in Mosimane's footsteps before his departure. Do not write your end within Al Ahly," the former Tottenham Hotspur star said per Btolat.

“The success was in favour of Zamalek, and Al Ahly did not prepare itself for the match well. Marcel Koller has mistakes and the board of directors as well. There are players in Al Ahly who are not fit to play in the club.

"The one who signed, [Anthony] Modeste, must be held accountable. He made a tremendous career in Europe, but Al Ahly is not the one who signs a player at the end of his career, and with all due respect to Modeste, he is unable to move."

Meanwhile, Zamalek's derby celebrations were disrupted by the Egyptian Clubs Association's decision to issue sanctions against the club for hiding balls away from the Red Devils players during the encounter, and Mido agrees with the action taken.

"I agree with the Club Association's decision 100% and applaud them for the penalty for hiding balls in the summit match," he added.

"I am sure that Hussein Labib, President of Zamalek Club, will not be satisfied with this matter. This cannot happen inside the White Castle. I hope that he will open an investigation into this matter. This happens in second and third division clubs.

"What happened sends a message to the players that you are afraid. Zamalek’s value and status is that it does not waste time and we were not raised on that. The history of Zamalek says that it wins through the efforts of its children, whether players, coaches or administrators. Al Ahly has the right to be sad about hiding the balls in the match."
