With a certain African nation having opened applications for its vacant head coach role, a former Kaizer Chiefs boss is now said to have applied to be the country's next manager.
According to Soccer24, the Zimbabwe Football Association's (ZIFA) Nationalisation Committee has started the process of appointing a new national team head coach.

The organisation is said to have advertised the vacancy last week, just a month before Zimbabwe resume their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign in June, with matches lined up against Lesotho and Bafana Bafana at the Orlando Stadium and Bloemfontein, respectively.
With the closing date for applications having been earlier this week, it is claimed by Soccer24 that ex-Orlando Pirates and Amakhosi coach Kostadin Papic has applied for the role, and that ZIFA had previously approached the Serbian and had a meeting with him.

"The Normalisation Committee approached Kostadin Papic’s handlers on 15 April, before talking to the coach himself the following day," a source told the Zimbabwean publication last month.
"I'm not so sure about the details of the discussion but it appears as though they [the committee] just told the coach they would get back to him."
Despite reports of previous interest in the Warriors job, former SuperSport United mentor Kaitano Tembo is said to have not applied for the job, while it is unclear whether or not the country's most recent caretaker coach, Norman Mapeza, has applied after leading the side during the March international break.
Baltemar Brito, a Portuguese tactician and former assistant coach to Jose Mourinho, has reportedly also applied for the job, having been in charge of Zimbabwe for a short stint towards the back-end of 2023.

ZIFA reportedly plans to confirm its next manager before the World Cup qualifiers next month, both of which will be played in South Africa.
