He wasn’t involved in the opening nine games of the season but has been a menace since October tearing apart Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-finals.

Such has been his form of late that he has had eight goal contributions in the last seven games.

This weekend the North West Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation named him as the Sports Star of the Year at the North West Sports Awards.

The awards were held at Sun City.

Saleng had been nominated along with gymnast Tshiamo Matlhoane and Junior Masangane.

The 24-year-old hails from North West province and played for ORBIT College in the ABC Motsepe League before his break into the professional ranks at Free State Stars.

Prior to being signed by Ea Lla Koto he scored 27 goals playing on the wing in his last season.

Mamelodi Sundowns took notice but eventually didn’t sign him and then had trials at AmaZulu and Golden Arrows with no luck.

Saleng is in contention for several awards at his club and the PSL this season.
